2025 spotlight ⭐️
GONE ABROAD (@goneabroadfilm ) is a semi-autobiographical story directed by Kevin Ang (@skyloreang ), which challenges a culture of silence and stigma around mental health. The story follows 15-year-old Kevin’s search for truth after being told that his best friend has “gone abroad” to study.
Grateful and excited that “After Party” has won the Screen BC Short Film Award. Thank you @whisfilmfest and @screenbc It’s an incredibly important film that speaks to both the strength and pain of a Filipino community that is still healing. It was such a great but nerve-wracking experience, one I had no chance of getting through without the incredible talents and sheer force of will of my creative partners in this project, @lourizatronco and @ryanlino . I cannot emphasize enough how excited I am to make something wonderful and beautiful with these two wonderful and beautiful human beings. Also grateful for all the friends who helped listen in and improve our pitch in every small aspect. And thank you to everyone who has given us such kind words over the pitch the last few days. The immense enthusiasm and support over our pitch and story resolves our determination that we have to make this and make this right. Finally, a special shout out to the rest of my fellow filmmakers who pitched on that stage. We all shared such an incredible experience backstage and onstage together. And they have such important stories to tell. To be surrounded by such talent and kindness was a blessing. Now I guess, there’s nothing else but to make this film! See you all soon!
Super excited to be part of this year's TELUS STORYHIVE Pan-Asian Storyteller Edition along with all these amazing artists. In can't get wait to get started but also know there's a long road ahead. But I'm sure it'll be fun every step of the way-- dragging along many old friends (while making new ones). And of course none of it possible with the immense support of @storyhive and @creativebcs . Thank you, and let's have blast!
Count From Ten by 48 Hours Later will be one of the 20 films playing at the Finals Screening for the Run N Gun 2025 Main event! Tickets at rngfest.com/2025

I wasn't really planning on joining @rngfest this year. When I do, I keep them pretty low key- but when a bunch of awesome amazing people you've always wanted to work with line up, well it's hard to say no. This was an amazing, fun and probably most exhaustive one I've done- while keeping it still relatively small, intimate and simple. Super proud of the amazing talent on display here. Hopefully we get to show off more of our little film but here's some great shots by @bruceyyan
