Shots from in and around Deadvlei in Sossusvlei, Namibia

The Namib is the oldest desert in the world, being formed over 55 million years ago. Roaring Atlantic winds cross 50 kilometers of dunes to reach this ancient dried riverbed, now a salt pan. Deadvlei was separated from the main riverbed of Sossusvlei 900 years ago, and the trees in the pan itself have been dead since then - unable to decompose in the arid climate. They become instead sun scorched skeletons of themselves.

The boulders beach African penguin colony! Established in 1982 when 4 of them got lost and swam here from Namibia! Their very inbread! They’re perfect!
