Ryan McLaughlin: Saentis Bindle II May 1–May 30, 2026 Ryan McLaughlin studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and, immediately after graduation, moved to Berlin, Germany, where he lived and worked for fourteen years. He later returned to the United States, living successively in Georgia, Florida, New York, and Massachusetts, where he is now based. Itinerancy has profoundly shaped both his visual library and his painterly practice—the latter necessarily compact and easily adapted to new settings. Some of the works on view have passed through multiple cities, accumulating information, marks, and meaning along the way; their surfaces bear the quiet evidence of this extended life. The exhibition takes its name from Mt. Säntis, a peak in the Swiss Alps that was a constant visual presence during the artist’s 2015–16 residency in Heiligenberg, Germany. The allusion to this highly visible landmark, along with the word “bindle,” a symbol of the transient lifestyle, marks both a fixed point and a constant state of wandering. This exhibition represents the artist’s return to the title Säntis Bindle, which was originally used for his solo show at the Atlanta Contemporary in 2018. Untitled, 2026 flashe and oil on canvas on panel 36h x 24w in 91.44h x 60.96w cm

⁣ Adams and Ollman is pleased to present Säntis Bindle II, an exhibition of paintings by Ryan McLaughlin. The exhibition brings together a select group of works from the past decade, tracing the artist’s sustained investigation into the formal and conceptual possibilities of painting. Säntis Bindle II reveals an artist deeply engaged with the materiality of paint and art historical traditions, while also examining language and systematic structures and other informational frameworks. Working between figuration and abstraction, McLaughlin demonstrates a steadfast commitment to exploring how paintings are made and how images are constructed, read, and experienced.⁣ ⁣ Join us today Friday, May 1, 5–7pm for the opening reception, on view through May 30, 2026.⁣ ⁣ Ryan McLaughlin⁣ Mistral, 2018⁣ oil on canvas on panel⁣ 47h x 33w in⁣ 119.38h x 83.82w cm

⁣ Ryan McLaughlin⁣ 𝘜𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘥, 2018⁣ oil on linen mounted on MDF, framed⁣ 33h x 47w in⁣ 83.82h x 119.38w cm⁣ McLaughlin’s paintings feature fragmented words and crumbled pictograms hovering against dusty visual fields that fuse interpretations of still-life, landscape, and abstraction. Toggling between subjective symbols and known signifiers, McLaughlin works to extract a complex coherence between psychic unease and disambiguated aesthetic pleasure. His rich and varied surfaces present an ostensibly traditional format, one grounded in color, texture, shape, but with chance registrations that simultaneously suggest and dissect the visual proposition. It is from this familiar locus that McLaughlin continues to build his idiosyncratic cache of signage that navigates a fugitive space between aesthetic tension, definition, and playful provocation. ⁣ Ryan McLaughlin (b. Worcester, MA) received his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. Recent solo exhibitions include Säntis Bindle, Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta, GA; Impreza Earth, David Petersen Gallery, Minneapolis, MN; TraffiQ, Laura Bartlett Gallery, London; Lacus PM, Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne; Raisins, Laurel Gitlen, New York City; and Barbara (I and II) at Lüttgenmeijer, Berlin. McLaughlin’s work has been exhibited in group exhibitions at Metro Pictures, Sikkema Jenkins, both New York; Tanya Leighton, Berlin; Off Vendome, Dusseldorf.

Domestic 1: A Shaggy Dog May 4 - June 8, 2025 Uri Aran, Lucas Blalock, Peggy Chiang, Jill Goldstein, Max Guy, Kenji Ide, Bill Jenkins, Edward Kay, Em Kettner, Sam Linguist, Charles Mayton, Ryan McLaughlin, Shala Miller, Yu Nishimura, Umico Niwa, Alexandra Noel, Virginia Overton, Eric Palgon, Walter Price, Aurie Ramirez, Bruce Sherman, Angus Suttie “Domestic (1): A Shaggy Dog” is a large group show of mostly small and very small works, arranged on shelves alongside books and objects. The installation will take the form of a private conversation between things, between myself and a dear friend and collaborator*, between artists, and with the viewer who will be seeing works in an intimate landscape of sorts, within a private space, and with someone’s personal effects. The exhibition has taken shape (as most things do these days) across text chains about what’s for dinner, art, books, cocktails, politics and interior design. There have been messages/images sent over Instagram, shared Dropboxes, Google docs, video meetings and some excellent sandwiches. This intimacy, and some slippage between the personal and the professional is part of the whole performance. Arranged in accordance with aesthetic or personal logic, this exhibition abstracts the concept of the wunderkammer and a human tendency to shelve things that fit into categories like naturalia, artificialia and exotica. Most of the works are less easily categorized, more hybrid, less overt in their source. Memento mori and still-life are embedded in the domestic experience too: the family photo, the melted candle, crumbs on the counter, the pawprints of deceased family dogs. Thursday - Saturday, 11-5, and other times by appointment. DM for the address. Previews are available on request. *This exhibition was made in collaboration with Steven Eckler. @epal_turtle @vloverton @freddie.june @skyexec @edwardkay__ @em_kettner @kenjiide @leaf_bootleg @streamandstitch @peggy__wendy @lucasblalock @relational_athletics @littledogslikethese @ecklers #billjenkins #brucemsherman #samlinguist #alexandranoel #walterprice #aurieramirez #angussuttie #umiconiwa
