I wrote an article for Issue 4 of @fieldfarepress about the wonderful Victorian domestic interiors of Sambourne House and Leighton House in Holland Park — pre-orders for the issue have just opened (see the link in my bio) and we are so grateful for the support so far. 🙏🏻 We rely on pre-orders to gauge print runs and allow us to continue publishing — our last issue sold out, so please consider pre-ordering now to make sure you get your copy of Issue 4! #fieldfarepress #LondonHistoricHomes #VictorianLondon #HiddenGemsLondon #ArchitecturalHeritage #LondonHouseMuseums

Drumroll please… Fieldfare Issue 3: Sanctuary is finally available to pre-order via the link in profile! In a world that sometimes feels overwhelming and relentless, in this issue we take a longer, slower look at the places, people and everyday rituals that offer us a sense of wonder, inspiration and a feeling of safe haven. We travel to some far-flung destinations—Ladakh in India, Andros in Greece, the Faroe Islands, Lviv in Ukraine—but we also seek out the places closer to home where we can find much-needed respite and succour in busy daily lives, like the beautiful (and sometimes less visible) green spaces of London, the bucolic south-west of England, and the peaceful Eastern Shore of Maryland. However, as we move closer to our press date, we have a favour to ask of you. The past year has been a really challenging one for publishing. A steep rise in the cost of paper and printing, and the fact that we carry no ads, mean that we rely almost entirely on advance sales to enable us to complete production. So we are asking you to support our work by pre-ordering Issue 3 today, so that we can continue to tell the stories of those who might not otherwise be seen or heard—the places, communities and creatives we are dedicated to promoting and nurturing. As a gesture of our appreciation, we are offering a 10% discount on all pre-orders placed before 23 October. Thank you for your ongoing support, Skye and Mendy . . . #fieldfarenotes #indiemag #indiemagazine #indiemagazines #senseofplace

Just had a preview of @numbersixteenhotel ’s new afternoon tea, celebrating Chelsea Flower Show and served (appropriately) in this beautiful garden tucked away in South Kensington. Of course, being London, it started hailing a few minutes after we arrived, but next to the garden is a beautiful orangery — the perfect setting for afternoon tea. It was one of the nicest I’ve tried in London — including sweet and savoury scones, delectable sandwiches, and cakes including a lemon verbena macaron, baked ricotta, pickled strawberry and basil tartlet and a chocolate, cherry and thyme choux bun. Thanks @siobhaise and @firmdale_hotels for hosting such a lovely afternoon. (Pr invite)

Part 2 of our Egypt trip - after Cairo we travelled to Aswan and from there we visited Abu Simbel (about 3 hours’ drive though the desert from Aswan); the temple of Philae, which was moved from its original position and reassembled when the High Dam was built, creating Lake Nasser; and the temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek. Seeing these places in real life was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had. 1 - the temple of Nefertari at Abu Simbel 2, 9, 10, 13 - Kom Ombo 3 - felucca on the Nile at Aswan 4, 5, 14 - the temple of Rameses II at Abu Simbel 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 - the temple of Philae

I love Bermondsey St, and I REALLY loved the new restaurant @lolo_bermondseystreet by Spanish chef @jose_pizarro — I went with @siobhaise on the first sunny day in what felt like forever and we tried pan con tomate verde with manchego, Paleta Ibérica, courgette carpaccio, octopus with caper berries, and the most incredible Presa Ibérica, which is basically the wagyu of pork and the most delicious pork dish I’ve ever tried. Crema catalana and coffee to finish. So good. The interiors are warm and welcoming and so was the service. Highly recommend any of the Pizarro restaurants along Bermondsey St — Lolo is such a nice addition to this stretch. Thanks @lolo_bermondseystreet for having me and @siobhaise for the invite. 🤍 #londonfood #lolobermondsey

The world’s oldest open-air museum — Skansen in Stockholm, under a magical layer of snow over new year. ❄️ We had such a wonderful day there exploring the traditional buildings and homes that have been collected there from all over Sweden. Definitely recommend, especially if you have children — ours loved it.
