First Preview tonight!!!! Gregg @gbarnesdesign and I have teamed up again and thank God we had each other. The costume count is somewhere over 650, but there are 294 individual sketches— because in this show everyone is an individual! But mostly I’m grateful because there’s no one I’d rather share a dream with.
And of course we had a literal army of amazing help and collaboration, lead by the incredible @chromatic.caroline I’m especially missing our ferociously fab NY design team @rlt8@nguyencostumes@justjessbeyer@ryleeterrydesigner & Amber and wishing they were here with us tonight. But so grateful for the UK team @sabrinacuniberto@poppycamdenstudio@jd.costumes and @millieburmancostume who have worked so hard and so beautifully here.
And of course the BRILLIANT makers!! We’re under tight wraps here, so I hope to share evidence of their marvels soon, but for now just know that I have never cried more tears of joy and admiration in my life. We’ve all put our full hearts into this one, so I’m terrified and thrilled to share it all with the world.
The audience was electric tonight. Sometimes it’s all worth it.

This is Zero to Hero, and basically my mood about this team. In New York and London we were surrounded by the greatest group of hard working, fun-loving artists that made our studio and the fitting room the MOST joyous place to be! They went hard this week with beauty, strength, and giving Daddy Lessons. Beyonce was absolutely mind blowingly amazing, but biggest shout goes to my partner in fatherhood @nathankbrewer cause no one goes harder with laughs
Y’alllllll these prints are DELIVERING Mediterranean joy!! You might remember some of these textile designs we created last year with the incredible @these_weathers@tescia14@lily.bailie.studio and @chromatic.caroline . They’re all based on motifs from Ancient Greek art, but over the last 7 months we’ve been warming up the palette and spicing up the scale so we can truly transport the good people of London to their vacation dreams. The incomparable Wes Austin turned a bunch of crazy ideas into reality and this world couldn’t be more fun and beautiful! ( Or at least that’s the world I’ve been living in.) We’ve just started tech and can’t wait for Hercules @HerculesOnStage to open on the West End, but for now let’s just enjoy these amazing fabrics created by some truly amazing artists!

Today was my first day teaching at my alma mater: NYU. The class is about problem solving quickly through curveballs, but mostly I hope it is a class about how to create joy for yourself and for others. I feel so lucky to have found Gregg @gbarnesdesign , someone with whom our eyes do a lot of lighting up. (Which started 26 years ago, full circle moment, at NYU!!!) As I was trying to think of what I wanted to say on my first day, this quote from Andre De Shields seemed powerfully resonant. If I have one piece of advice, it’s that a successful career and a joyful life is only possible when you find the people that love you, that challenge you, that make you better when you’re good and that hold you closer when you fail. For me it’s a constant balancing game of trying to work with the people I already love, while also trying to find new people to love. And I’m feeling especially grateful as we’re starting to revisit Hercules for London. So here’s a little tribute to a few collaborators I cherish, the new (@bygoodwinjason@chromatic.caroline@these_weathers@elidaberrydonat@rtuchschmid@max.r93 ) and especially the OG gold standard (@sophialidz@rja201 MP and my forever love @nathankbrewer ) 💖
Somebody please tell this QUEEN she turned 6 this weekend, NOT 13!!! These looks! Fearless, strong, kind, joyful, adventurous. I’d say it spells trouble but my heart is too full. ❤️❤️❤️
