Skin cancer—especially melanoma—is extremely serious. We are saddened by the passing of Brandon Blackstock, ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, who lost his battle with melanoma at age 48. His death is a strong reminder that melanoma can affect anyone, at any age and with any skin tone. Stay vigilant with a sun protection strategy, check your skin regularly for anything new, changing or unusual and see a dermatologist at least once a year. Learn more: SkinCancer.org/melanoma

Annie was shocked when she learned she had basal cell carcinoma (BCC) in January 2024. She never experienced any skin cancer warning signs.  “It looked just like a tiny pimple, that’s it.” For Annie, skin cancer has been physically demanding. She has had three surgeries to remove and reconstruct part of her face. “You can’t get away from it really. You have to look at your face every day in the mirror, so you are pretty self-conscious.” Annie’s message is clear: You need to protect your skin from the sun. Don’t use tanning beds and always wear sunscreen and a hat. To learn more about basal cell carcinoma, visit: SkinCancer.org/BCC
