Skillbard picked up awards in both audio categories (Music Compotition & Sound Design) from The Motion Awards 2024. Thanks! The Music Composition prize was awarded for the Procreate Dreams' announcement trailer. Taking a texture-first approach, rich and satisfying samples were grabbed at random and the music was built up from there. 🍖 Skillbard picked up both audio awards (Music Composition & Sound Design) from The Motion Awards again this year. The Sound Design prize was awarded for the viscerally vibrant animated comedy Vegeversary. See the full film and read more about Skillbard’s process of sound creation (including Jo swallowing a microphone) at skillbard.com It’s well known that everyone, without exception, celebrates their anniversary of vegetarianism by eating eight or nine meat-packed feasts. This is an indisputable fact and the subject of this film, where a bunny is dragged out on a bachelorette-style meat bender by her friends. Skillbard’s Jo was in charge of sounds, recording a sonic smörgĂ„sbord to make it feel mega meaty. Real sounds—sizzling bacon, slapping some chicken about etc—played a role, but ironically (or perhaps fittingly) vegetables were our strongest allies. Well known as staples of the horror-movie foley artist’s diet, vegetables were mercilessly manipulated under the microphone before being chopped and warped into tight, comedic rhythm to match Sarah’s punchy animation style. Relishing every minute. “It was a good time making unholy sounds for such a distinct film. Thank you sarah!”, Jo adds. đŸ„©

Greg Sharp’s comically cynical vision of the future where the water is gone and all that’s left is dust and desperation seems less and less like fantasy. But we’re guessing you didn’t come here for our take on global politics. Hopefully, you came here for a recording of a man shouting “drink of water” over and over again, ‘cause that’s what you’re getting. All characters in The Future are identical so the animatic was a little difficult to follow. To help us understand who was who, we whipped up some temporary voice acting. Unfortunately for us, Greg loved it. We recorded fifty throat-punishing takes of hoarse and manic screaming for our crabby, crazed pink weirdos.

REPLY2HATE (2026) Last year we partnered with @barkley.okrp to create the launch film for Reply2Hate.com, a platform built in response to rising targeted hate messages, comments, and DMs directed at minorities and vulnerable communities. Courageous Conversation @ccaboutrace created this platform to counter the isolating effects of targeted hate, offering resources and support to make clear people are not alone. We approached the film as a visual and sonic clap-back. We structured the film to echo the message, working with three directors: @kohana.wilson @_basilegodard @vewn_ Each building their section independently, coming together at the end. Sound and music by @skillbard Typography by Taylor Dow Produced at @titmouseinc by @jeanettejeanenne The film has been selected to @annecyfestival (my 9th selection đŸ€©). GLAS Animation Festival is back and Skillbard is their new partner. We were creating the sound and music for GLAS idents for years until that Covid BS put a stop to everything. But the coolest festival out there is returning to LA December 6th/7th and we’re very proud to be an official festival partner. It’s just a shame we won’t be attending this year. GLAS Animation is a non-profit organization founded by festival queen @jeanettejeanenne and @seanbuckelew in 2014 to provide a unique platform for independent animation, championing diverse and underrepresented voices.

Delightful critters. A disgusting pigeon. Squelchy beatboxing. You showed me a crisp. Try and you will see. Anything unclear? When we first developed the sonic universe of the Wisp World experience on Apple Vision Pro, we created a whimsical, nonsensical, extraterrestrial language to give our solitary Wisp a speaking voice. In this new, expanded experience for Snap Inc.’s Spectacles, the little charmer sings, and they’re joined by a couple of mates for a communal sing-along. The AR experience culminates when you help to reunite the three lost Wisps. They celebrate by coming together to sing—and squelchily beatboxing—a song about the adventures you’ve all been through together. The song features generative, story-led lyrics that recount your adventure, turning the objects, revolting varmints and starchy snack offerings found in the real world into unique, ever-changing verses. More at the link in the bio.
