A thank you to the seniors who poured their hearts into the afterschool program. You’ve truly shaped it into what it is today, setting a great example for these children of what hard work can achieve. Teaching interactive skills in the kitchen has been a huge part of what culinary does. This morning San Jacinto High School welcomed special guests for a campus visit highlighting the impactful work happening through the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) program at SJHS.
Today’s visitors included representatives from the BARR Center and members of the Hawaii Legislature’s Education Committee, who visited SJHS to learn more about the school’s nationally recognized, strengths-based approach to student success.
SJHS was recently recognized as a BARR School of Excellence and continues to lead the way in building a positive school culture focused on academics, attendance, behavior, and connection through relationship-centered practices and strong staff collaboration.
Guests participated in small group teacher collaboration, classroom observations and conversations with administrators and the SJHS BARR team. SJHS Link Crew students led guests on a brief campus tour while sharing how they help freshmen successfully transition to high school. Link Crew hosts several events throughout the year, including Tiger Take Over for incoming 8th graders, along with activities designed to help freshmen build friendships, get involved, and take advantage of opportunities available at SJHS.
Special Shoutout to the SJHS 9th Grade BARR Team who has recognized more than 200 Students of the Week, sent over 250 encouraging postcards, and delivered more than 600 I-Time lessons as they continue working to ensure every student feels supported and connected.

The @sjhs.tigers Tiger Symphonic Band earned a historic Unanimous Superior rating at the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Festival - the highest recognition possible!
For the band’s thirteen seniors, this moment was years in the making as they have spent the last four years growing together through performances, competitions, trips, friendships, and countless hours of practice.
When the ratings were announced, students described the moment as: “Finally!” “Emotional.” “Bittersweet.” “Our hard work paid off!”
Band Director Mr. Harris shared, “I pushed them, believed in them, and knew they could do it. All the hard work was worth it.”
The achievement qualifies the Tiger Symphonic Band for the California State Band & Orchestra Festival in 2027, one of the state’s most prestigious music performance events. It also reflects the continued growth and excellence of music education throughout San Jacinto Unified School District and the dedication of students committed to reaching their highest potential.
