Film is at the core of Siyababa Atelier’s multidisciplinary practice. The INDUKU visuals introduce the central theme of the Siyababa Atelier A/W 26 collection, offering a cinematic entry point into the world and its characters. The film traces their origins, bringing forward ideas of pansexuality through a speculative, ancestral lens. This performance-led visual work explores what trans identity and pansexual expression may have looked like for our ancestors—before skyscrapers, before the codification of cloth and dress as we know it today. ⸻ The INDUKU Visual Team Crew Dein-Conrad O’Toole (@theconradest ) — Director Mninizo Sitho Bandez — Camera Operator Tammi Linda Mbambo (@tammimbambo ) — Make-Up Artist Nkuthalo Kevin Mkala (@96watergun ) — Assistant Producer Characters Mbali Smith (@mbalienhle ) — Actor Tshidiso Seme (@tshidisoseme ) — Actor INDUKU A/W 26 is a multidisciplinary presentation by Siyababa Atelier, showcased at @samenswearweek under @therealjozicollective . INDUKU doesn’t only want to be seen — INDUKU wants to be heard. Expanding beyond the visual, INDUKU introduces a layered sonic dimension shaped by a collective of musicians, writers, and producers. Together, they compose a visceral auditory experience we call “Gqom Opera” — where rhythm, storytelling, and experimental sound converge to embody the spirit of INDUKU. Siyabonga Mtshali, artistically known as Siyababa, is a multidisciplinary storyteller from the KwaZulu-Natal coast of South Africa. Now based in Johannesburg, Mtshali is pioneering a contemporary African avant-garde language by bringing art and fashion into powerful conversation with one another. Through this approach, he creates new narratives that transform the runway into a space for performance and deeper expression. Having grown up queer within a hyper-masculine Zulu community, he experienced a distorted understanding of what it meant to be both African and queer. At the time, representation in the media was limited and largely shaped through Western perspectives, leaving little room for more layered, authentic reflections of identity. #SAMW #AW26 #WOF
