Today I made the trek down to the Devil's Hole Range in Havana for a special 8 stage match. The Springfield Tactical Shooters put on the match to help raise funds for their own range, complete with an impressive raffle prize table that seriously rivals some of the more recent major matches I've been to.
The stages were a fun mix of targets: close, far, partial, activators, steel, and everything in between.
Shooting outside of the normal Chi-town group put me a little outside of my comfort zone, and there was plenty of heat at this match.
I definitely left a little bit of time on the table, but outside of one stage where I struggled with some steel, I shot accurately and did not have any malfunctions or need many make up shots. Zero penalties, one Delta. And a few more Charlie's than I'd like but I can't complain.
Heat: brought. 1st overall out of 118 shooters. 🍊🔥🍊🔥🍊

A Saturday double header of MISS matches shows just how quickly things can change. Six stages in the morning did not go very well for me, but after a breather and a light lunch, the six afternoon stages from match number two saw a performance much closer to what I expect from myself.
7/30 with 84.88% for AM/match 1
1/31 100% for PM/match 2
Way too much video to go through, so yes, this is only the good ones.
I'm going to be taking a bit of a break through March to make sure I don't burn out in June or earlier, but I've already got some big plans for spring into the outdoor and majors season.
And whoever said my knees and back would feel this all-day marathon the next morning... yeah. That definitely happened.

The turnout today at Schultz was pretty light but it meant we quickly blasted through eight stages, finishing by 1230pm. It wasn't my best showing as I racked up a few penalties, had some dot issues (the dot is inside the little glass window sitting on top of everything, duh), and stalled a few times fighting with steel (which lost me the coveted #fafb award).
4th in the overall with 95.20%. Feeling decently confident in my movement, at least enough to build on it, but I've got to pick up the dry fire regimen and build on some of that accuracy that's slipped away lately.
Cropping my video to "square" seems to have fixed the aspect ratio issues that popped up recently. Fingers crossed.

It seemed like we were going to be rained out, but the OPSC match went on as planned albeit with a bit if a rain delay. I've been working on my footwork and running/movement speed lately, and today there were a few instances where I got to push myself in this area.
In my head, everything absolutely plays through at a speed faster than my reality.
In the moment, I feel like I'm moving through molasses.
In video review, I'll usually concede that I'm decently quick.
Today I felt fast. Got a lotta comments about it, thanks everyone for the callouts today!
Aside from one or two small figurative and literal stumbles, I felt fast and appreciate the motivation I'm getting from this. Of course, my focus wasn't enough on my sights and my hands. I racked up a few too many misses and too many Deltas. ... but that only gives me a direction for my practice.
2nd out of 69 with 96.10%.

It was hot. As balls. I made my way out to NPCCC for the local (redacted shooting org) match on Sunday, drank my weight in water (thanks @ericarrrrrrr for the perfectly timed arrival with a water jug!), and won the #fafb award that I literally invented right this second.
4th overall with 98.46%. I was a little sloppy with my hits and had a few stumbles throughout but I'm overall happy with my movement. I've got plans to make some moves in the second half of the year despite my lower attendance vs previous years. It's gonna be a good one.

Wednesday night bonus MISS match. A less than stellar run on the first stage netted me a no shoot and some additional seconds on the clock due to a dropped mag and a failure to feed. My reloads were straight garbo throughout. Add a few instances of trigger freeze and it was enough for 2nd overall behind @eric._.kamps who killed it. So it goes, as I've heard before.
There was plenty of good though, with two stage wins and two second place stage finishes by less than a quarter of a percent. Going one for one on the fourth stage with the three-shot tuxedo swinger felt amazing when almost everyone else was chucking five or six shots at it and still missing. I tried to push past my comfort zone with some closer arrays, hosing and blazing to decent success.
With outdoor season fast approaching and many majors already open for registration, my March is going to see a bit of a break before hitting it hard again. My off season hasn't felt like the normal departure and I want to ensure I'm not burning out in the middle of summer.
Good to see @point_1_tactics bringing in some new faces, hopefully some of them become regulars at the local matches!

The bad: Missed first place by less than 1% to @9grenade because of:
The ugly: Plugging no-shoots like I was getting paid for it. That cost me around 7-8% in the overall.
With the outdoor season on the horizon, dry fire and deliberate live fire practice is on the menu. Gotta hit it hard, gotta go fast.
