when i suggested to aimee the frick mount a barkley hendricks exhibition i didn’t think they would do it! but here we are! so this is a surreal experience for me!
i don’t have a favorite artist but if I did it would be barkley hendricks. the artist’s portraits are a remarkable gift and to be able to present them with aimee at the @frickcollection , his favorite museum, is really cool. the show is a tribute to barkley’s life and legacy, the people he saw and the artists who inspired him—and the many artists working today who he inspired.
thanks to the museum, the artists who contributed to the exhibition’s book, jack shainman, the man and gallery, and susan, barkley’s life partner, for picking up me and aimee’s calls and joining us in the work.
