🔫 SCREENING ANNOUNCEMENT! 📢 Join @glue_gun_cine and @siren.screen to celebrate Gemini season with a doppelgänger double bill at @the_cinema_museum on 5th June, with feature Dead Ringers on 16mm and accompanying short A Kind of Testament. DEAD RINGERS (1988) is David Cronenberg’s tragic, clinical character study of gynaecologists Elliot and Beverly (Jeremy Irons), identical twins who share everything - their home, their medical practice and even their sexual conquests. While it avoids explicit body horror, it still demonstrates Cronenberg’s fascination with physical and mental transformation, charting the disintegration of the twins’ relationship and the toll it takes on their minds and bodies. Don’t miss this rare chance to see it projected on 16mm film, from The Cinema Museum’s own collection. Stephan Vuillemin’s (@aycevee ) eerie animated short A KIND OF TESTAMENT (2023) grafts Cronenbergian body horror onto digital space. Join us for a 40th anniversary screening of 𝑲𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒛𝒆 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒔, a feature-length feast for intensity lovers. ❤️‍🔥 Released in 1986, Juliet Bashore’s queer docufiction records the lives and relationship of two sexworkers Sharon Mitchell and Tigr in the fascinating backdrop of the 1980s San Francisco X-rated underground they worked in. Blending the real with the imagined, Bashore documents queerness in the American porn industry. Issues of misogyny, drug abuse, and exploitation are exposed through the lives, love and work of two women ― following the naive newcomer Tigr and her veteran partner, the magnetic Sharon Mitchell, who are caught in a toxic relationship. Intimate with unflinching intensity, the film blurs muddied fact with fiction in a mythmaking document of performance and of the dreamers longing for stardom.  After the screening, audiences are welcome to join @ge.odes of Siren Screen and guest speaker @farzadazimbeik in an open post-film discussion. Join us for a landmark of Queer cinema history with a rare screening of Kamikaze Hearts on 29 May at @finch.communitycinema Directed by Juliet Bashore, this mesmerising docu-fiction follows two sex workers as they navigate their work and relationship through the blurred boundaries between intimacy and performance. Running just 77 minutes, Kamikaze Hearts is both a fascinating record of pre-gentrification San Francisco’s X-rated underground and an intense love story. Co-written and conceived by one of its leads, Tigr, the film is refreshingly authored by the Queer folk it portrays. Recently restored in 2K by the UCLA Film & Television Archive @uclaftvarchive from the original 16mm footage, the film retains its gorgeous grainy visuals and intimate atmosphere. A big THANK YOU from myself and the @cinemayearzero crew for all those who joined us at last week’s packed out screening celebrating the History of Ken Russell! 🚓 What a special opportunity to watch a 16mm print of Crimes of Passion @the_cinema_museum , a maximalist historic venue for equally maximalist, sensational (& madcap) film legend. The double-bill with nunsploitation Visions of Ecasty made this a really unforgettably Russellmania night (with mouthful title). We sold out completely of @jj_designed visually stunning zines, contributed by some amazing essayists - but not to worry if you missed them, the essays are live on cinemayearzero(dot)com to peruse!
