I adore Ravel's whirling, acerbic, gloriously eccentric yet totally universal duo for violin and cello.
Here's a clip from a our upcoming duo album with Alexandre Foster for @claves_records . A really special project recording Ravel, Ligeti, Martinu, @helenawinkelman , Lassus, Saariaho and Moser; more to come as the release date approaches!

At the end of an awesome week at @kuhmofestival . "Vision" from Atterberg's Suite with the amazing @tomoko.akasaka and @tallinnakammerorkester , with superheroes @minnapensola and @musikanttikkanen at the helm.
Atterberg is now rarely performed due to the unearthing of his Nazi sympathies. This piece is from 1917, a time of revolutions, befitting the festival theme of Nordic utopia.
Ravel, Sonata para violín y violoncello en la Igrexa de San Salvador de Asma, Chantada (Lugo).

A School of Two-Part Writing
In the style of a top-class multi-course and harmonious menu, Sini Simonen and Alexandre Foster present duos spanning over four hundred years of music history: an “entrée paysanne” by Martinů, an elegiac “entremet” by Kaija Saariaho, the main course by Maurice Ravel, a varied cheese plateau by Roland Moser and a bittersweet dessert by Helena Winkelman. Short “mises en oreilles” by Orlando di Lasso and György Ligeti intersperse the courses throughout, opening the ears to new sound experiences.

Amazing week at @festivalta_chambermusic , at the northernmost part of the world I have ever set foot to! Incredible colleagues, deep frost, northern lights, and some wild Vivaldi with @arktiskfilharmoni
Thank you to the magician behind it all, @miriamhelmsalien !

Take a musical moment to pause, recharge and unwind at the end of the working day. Our rush hour concert on Tuesday 27 January brings together violinist Sini Simonen, Director of Performance Dr Maria Razumovskaya, and our students in an evening of side-by-side performances.

'I think it's inspiring to teach someone who, first of all, has a real openness and curiosity.' 🎼
When we sat down with our Professor of Violin Sini Simonen to film the first episode of our 'Meet the Professor' series, we asked her to share the three traits or mindsets she finds most inspiring in a student👆
