Want to write, but not sure how to start? Or stuck in a rut with your writing? This masterclass with Verena Tay will help you perceive the world in a new fashion, fuel your creativity and give impetus to new writing.
This hands-on session will encourage you to explore objects and the surrounding environment through movement, sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. Drawing inspiration from these stimuli, you will embark on various writing exercises. Finally, you will receive feedback on what you have written and how you can further develop your text/s beyond the workshop. Whether you are a new or seasoned writer, Jumpstart will spur you to write stories or poems infused with unexpected textures that will grab the imagination of your readers.
This masterclass is open to both new and experienced writers writing in fiction and nonfiction. Please note that participants will be required to move about. Activities will be non-strenuous, but require you to be fairly mobile.

Accessibility Notes:
Sing Lit Station is only accessible by stairs. If you have questions, please drop us a message at [email protected].
We also have a roaming office cat ๐. Antihistamines are available in the pantry area for those with allergies.
Everyone needs an eye break from our screens, even in commute. So why not look up and around at the Poems on the MRT when youโre taking the trains?
Three people did and they were totally inspired and touched by the words of Singaporeโs poets. Weโve always known the power of the written word and maybe itโs time that you discover that too. Maybe youโd have no choice but to start stanning it ๐
Read what these commuters felt when they glanced upon these reflections of Singapore in our link in bio ๐

Poems by Samuel Lee
Last published in 2016, AFTERIMAGE is proud to restore to circulation Samuel Leeโs ๐ผ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ช๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐๐ช๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ข๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฉ๐จ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ฅ๐ค๐ง๐ as part of its RENDITIONS series, committed to preserving and reintroducing culturally defining works.
A 19th century reference book (philology? anthropology? art history? nobody remembers) that fell into a tropical swamp and was rescued, then restored by a kind woman in curlers. Caked in time and organic residue too dense to scrub off, its pages reveal a city of private sorrowsโminute, expansive, and strangely familiar. To read it is to get lost in the aisles of millennia. Winner of the 2018 Singapore Literature Prize (Poetry in English), ๐ผ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ช๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐๐ช๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ข๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฉ๐จ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ฅ๐ค๐ง๐ is for those who have ever wandered too far down an aisle and come back altered.
Publishing 29 May 2026.
