I often get asked why don’t I compete in food competition shows? #Haitians aren’t exactly encouraged to play with our food so my conditioning runs deep. Seeing how much food waste goes into an episode running against a clock to be judged on in front of the world spikes my anxiety to unmanageable levels. #ThrowbackThursday one of my greatest honors was not only being welcomed into the STUNNING home of a woman I have looked up to for nearly my entire life who has done an impeccable job representing our #Haitian culture to the world as our reigning #Queen for literally decades but also having the opportunity to cook for & feed this icon while allowing me to be a part of this massive moment for her to use her platform to educate not only her cast mates but also the world watching a bit about our history & culture. @garcelle is the embodiment of beauty, brains, bravery, resilience, grace & strength. She has been in the entertainment industry since she was a teenager, grew up & raised a family before our eyes while stepping into many roles & dominating as a model, actress, host, entrepreneur & advocate. I know there are so many people to look up to & for many reasons why but to have this level of consistency of a black woman achieving greatness defying all odds for this many years especially in a world right now of rewarding people failing upwards, there has been no greater gift to the people of #Haiti than having #Garcelle leading the way showing us how it can be done. I didn’t quite grasp at the time what a juggernaut this series is around the world, I was just stoked to finally cook for her, which made me admire her more for taking the risk to vulnerably put herself out there sharing so many aspects of her life… what an absolute force AND the dinner went off without a hitch. I visited the Venice Beach location across the street from my favorite burger spot @thewindow.la & every detail was incredible. I’ve never had so many massages during a pedicure including a paraffin wrap, warm towel wrap AND an additional 10 minute leg massage while the sun danced all over my skin. So I got my pseudo vegan girlfriend @shiralazar this gorgeous gift box from @rebel.cheese Cheese for her birthday because apparently these cheeses are so good they got a deal on @sharktankabc with @mcuban & @lorigreinershark … Drove an hour and twenty minutes to Venice… fought for my life in traffic… then another 30 looking for parking… just to get there & the party was already over. At first I was like… wow. Love that for me. But then I remembered I keep a picnic blanket & pop-up tent in my car because I’m either prepared for a spontaneous picnic or the apocalypse. No in between. So instead of crying over missed birthday cake… I set up in the park & opened HER gift box. And listen… this creamy brie? Dangerous. The strawberry basil fromage? Unreal & not the sad rubbery vegan cheese either. I’m talking award-winning, artisan, cultured cashew cheese aged in actual cheese caves. Like… who’s auntie is back there becoming a dairy-free scientist? For a hardcore carnivore like me I’m thrilled this happened because now I have a heart healthy, cheese option which I need because lactose is NOT my friend! I went to an event on Thursday night in Hollywood & after we had sushi across the street & that’s when I stumbled into this Jamaican spot next door called @tropicalfiyah_hollywood beelined straight in while they were closing & was like “YO… I NEED to eat here & share my experience” My boy @hi_mikeymike was back in town & we made plans to spend Mother’s Day together. I was supposed to christen his newly renovated kitchen but then a last minute Airbnb booked his condo so we did the next best thing to ensure good vibes & redefining Mothers Day for us at Tropical Fiyah on Hollywood Blvd & La Brea… they did NOT disappoint & we will be eating here again & again! Absolutely FIYAH authentic Jamaican cuisine right in the heart of Hollywood! I’ve been craving Greek food for weeks since I saw @dinewithkent hit his favorite spot & then I saw @elcondorsquest ’s experience here & was like “yup…. THIS is the place!” Here’s a sneak peak of 1 of 2 I’ll be posting this week I hit on opposite ends of the spectrum. This was the most expensive meal I’ve had since visiting San Sebastian, Spain to dine @cellercanroca when they had the number 1 spot in the world… & frankly worth EVERY penny. It was a dream & BEST part they have several locations in NY as well as a location in Miami, Dallas & their newest one in Boston.
