Spring is here! And so, belatedly, is the piece I created to celebrate the year of the fire horse (which is already galloping by). I really loved the imagery of monkey and horse and wanted to bring them together for my year of the horse illo. This motif is often associated to symbolize with rapid success, combining monkey’s cleverness with horse’s strength and speed. To me, all these animals symbolize how we carry and create change, whether with slow endurance and patience like snails and turtles or with shared conversation like a social monkey, or with powerful forward movement like a fiery horse. I will be releasing this piece as a printed lunar calendar that goes up to the start of the next lunar year, at the end of this week. Thank you everyone who has asked about a lunar calendar for 2026 for being so patient, I am the snail!

Our Year of the Fire Horse「八駿圖」’Eight Horses Galloping’ print in collaboration with artist Singha Hon @singha.hon draws inspiration from the W.O.W. team’s conversations with the 12 From Chinatown With Love 2026 participating businesses. The classic versions of traditional「八駿圖」’Eight Horses Galloping’ ink paintings depict a herd of fierce fighting horses as a representation of power, strength, and victory. Through this queer interpretation, we honor the values of Chinatown’s working-class struggle and the power of the people: the horses gallop side by side with gentle fierceness, showcasing a collective determination that ensures no one is left behind, and affirms the importance of mutual support as the path forward for a thriving Chinatown✨ 🔥🐴🔥 As the Year of the Double Fire Horse arrives with great upheaval, 2026 brings a sharpened focus on the shadow of state neglect in Chinatown, engineered by the joint force of policy and capital, and disguised as “public safety.” This moment demands that we resist and fight back. It asks us to return to our roots, anchored in Chinatown’s generations of people-powered resistance. From neighbors flooding the streets demanding justice against police brutality, to garment workers organizing for labor rights; from small business owners coordinating efforts to provide relief for food insecurity, to tenants organizing to maintain dignified and affordable housing; from mass mobilizations to quiet daily acts of care — it is the collective labor of Chinatown’s working-class people that holds our community together. Bearing eight guiding symbols — passage, interdependence, resilience, endurance, abundance, refuge, lineage, and love — these eight horses embody our collective strength and resilience passed down through generations. Following their unbridled, thundering gallop, we step forward with determination, our will to fight for our liberation unstoppable ✊🫂⛓️‍💥 big love to @luckyrisograph for the design and risograph print support and @seancheesecake for capturing our horsey prints in the wild 🫶 print is up for sale in our link in bio 🔗

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐥𝐞 is up for✨5✨more days!! The collection is inspired by the stories and rituals of everyday Chinatown, honoring the beauty found in the grit and resilience of the neighborhood’s heart and soul: small business owners. Inspired by auspicious Lunar New Year decorations and rituals, this mystical hand-painted gourd by artist @singha.hon carries a special intention for the upcoming year of the Fire Horse. The two horses gallop around the base of the gourd, chasing one another playfully while their fires connect through torches held by a figure inspired by Nezha, a protection deity, who has their light aloft. A golden monkey sits astride on one of the horses, blowing a gourd-horn to vocalize these wishes into reality. This year we are putting on this raffle to raise funds to push our mutual aid values even further as we grow and continue the From Chinatown With Love program into its future 🥹 Our relationships with small business owners call for more than us just showing up during LNY – we’re excited to see where this will lead us with your support <3 🚨TO ENTER🚨 🎟️ Purchase 1 ticket for $50 for the item of your choice and/or purchase a bundle of 3 tickets at $125 or 8 tickets at $350. The raffle will close on JANUARY 5TH at 11:59PM EST. Winners will be notified by email and announced here! 🔗 link in bio for more info ~ Photos by @studiomisch and bts from our epic shoot at @sunhingda !!

“Braiding Roots, Tying Saplings” A forestry inspired illustration I made for @wowprojectnyc 9 year anniversary zine “staying put”!! “Staying Put” asked for pieces that reflected on prompts related to belonging, survival, and growth, how we care for one another and build collective power and care in the midst of displacement, struggle, and pressure. Such an honor to be part of this gorgeous zine alongside so many artists, writers, and brilliant humans.

2025 marks our storefront’s centennial at 26 Mott St 😭 Since winter, we’ve been quietly working away on restoring our building’s parapet including the regeneration of former decorative ceramic tiling. We teamed up with incredibly talented artist duo Ryan and Raph of @ficusinterfaith to fabricate dreamy terrazzo tiling out of our archival porcelain shards. The gourd, buddha’s hand, pomegranate, and peach motifs designed by @singha.hon create a central diamond beaming matriarchal power, abundance and longevity from the top of our vibrant yellow brick building — an intention for how we want to grow into our next 100 years here, staying put at 26 Mott St 🍑🦇☁️ It feels fitting to share this on mother’s day, as we grow and root ourselves from the power of our matriarchs. The deep love and care our mothers and caregivers have continued to pour into loving, guiding, and supporting us unconditionally is what fuels us to keep going🥺… more on our centennial celebrations very soon ;)) pro photos by @studiomisch and other bts from the past couple months but Gary’s expression in photo 6 is the feeling here 😭

Look who stopped by the Materials for the Arts warehouse! 💛✨🤩 Singha Hon (@singha.hon ) is a visual artist and illustrator from New York City who has worked with organizations such as Womanly Magazine (@womanlymag ), the ACLU (@aclu_nationwide ), People’s Paper Co-Op (@peoplespaperco_op ), O+ Positive (@opositivefest ) and the W.O.W. Project (@wowprojectnyc ). Hon is also one of @NYCulture ’s 2024-25 Public Artists in Residence (PAIR), working with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice (@/EquityNYCGov) to elevate the understanding of racial equity, and amplify the mission of the office to advance equity across New York City. She will help showcase the city’s efforts at transformative change and increase the visibility of communities facing disparities by promoting racial justice across all boroughs. “My interest in this residency at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice is rooted in curiosity around the concept of thriving – a fundamental value in MOERJ’s mission statement, and a word often used to describe aspirations for people, communities, and gardens. I am deeply excited and honored to begin this journey with MOERJ as I explore the roles a creative practice can play in planting the seeds towards a future where everyone can blossom and flourish.” - Singha Hon All PAIR artists are granted access to MFTA supplies, so Singha visited the warehouse to pick up some materials for a Lunar New Year art activation she led for team members at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice. For the workshop, Singha educated attendees on the practice of Menshen, guardians of doors and gates, who are often hung up on doors during Lunar New Year to ensure a prosperous and safe new year. Drawing inspiration from the Chinese zodiac and symbolism, participants explored the wishes and dreams they have for the year of the wood snake with the following prompt: What would you like to invite in? What would you like to guard against? We’re thrilled that Singha was able to find materials for her workshop in our warehouse, and we can’t wait to see the work she completes during her residency! #MFTA #MaterialsfortheArts #CreativeReuse #PAIRnyc

🧧🐍 welcoming the year of the wood snake 🐍🧧- this lunar calendar is inspired by the mythic Xiaoqing / Green Snake from The Legend of the White Snake. Like any great folktale there are many many tellings and versions, but for me, this story has always resonated with themes of friendship, deep and true love, naturalism, animist power, and protection even through trials and tribulation. This calendar features the dates of key lunar phases for the coming year as they will be witnessed in Brooklyn’s night sky 🌓🌕🌗🌑 Risograph printed 11.5” x 17” by the amazing folks at @luckyrisograph - prints will be available on my website via link in bio!!! + in person @wingonwoandco starting this Thursday!
