‘Reflecting Bodies’ by @simonesmelt invites to witness an interplay of light, material and reflection.
A second iteration of this artwork will be presented at the exhibition OF NOW at @monopolberlin .
The light reflected on the polished sharp and geometrical surfaces of the aluminum volumes, creates fluid shatterings and shapes, diffusing the rays of light in multiple directions. The interplay of reflection and shadow becomes an ever-shifting landscape of illumination.
‘Reflecting Bodies’ is a study of material, shape, volume, light and the interplay between these four elements. The artwork features a spatial sound composition by @enequist_
OF NOW will open its doors next Wednesday, on May 1st.

Two weeks ago, we (@festamsterdam and @kvadrattextiles ) hosted a party to celebrate colour 🩵💜🤎
We invited as many colourful people as we know, and what a night it was!
We kicked things off with two inspiring talks by @riveroshan and @jochemrotteveel , and ended with a full-on club night with @enequist_ behind the decks. In between, there was beautiful food, amazing drinks and cocktails, and the best conversations.
Special thanks to @drinkstelz , @nelemanwines , @orginicsgin , and massimo for the incredible food and drinks, @titusevers for the soundsystem and laser to create an amazing clubnight, and of course to @nienkefris.studio for capturing the vibe so perfectly
The Yard, Voodoo Village 2025
We set out to create a space that combines scale with a feeling of weightlessness; floating and blending in the environment.
At its core stand the sculptural totems of Simone Smelt, the third iteration of her Reflecting Bodies series. These suspended sculptures formed the epicenter of the scenography: twenty-six aluminum volumes, sharp and polished, reflecting light into fractured forms.
Light interacting with the polished geometrical surfaces of the sculpture create fluid fragments and shapes, diffusing the rays in multiple directions. The light refracts into prismatic bursts — scattering into fine rays of color.
With this iteration we took the work into motion, making the sculptures kinetic. Two rotating trusses carried the sculptures through space, while a custom laser-tracking system by Pavel Zmunchila added another layer of animation and synchronicity.
Many thanks to everyone who helped us to get this done in such short notice <3

Today is the day I turn 30.
I’m a bit sad because I think 20 (something) fits my energy best. However, I’m grateful for the things I’ve experienced throughout the years, the people I’ve met and of course all the designs, exhibitions, products and furniture that launched. I’m excited for the future and I look forward to a lot of crazy cool projects 🩶
OF NOW has opened its doors ✨
Visit @monopolberlin from today until the 12th of may for OF NOW, a media art exhibition curated by my crazy talented and dear friends @lumus.instruments 🖤
Initiated by @monopolberlin@joseealarcon and @lumus.instruments
OF NOW is a media art exhibition showcasing installations and performances that provoke contemplation on the ‘now’.
In the second room (or dome you may call it) of the exhibition, the second iteration of ‘Reflecting Bodies’ is shown. A work that in a way searches for the captivation and materialisation of light and reflection within a space.
The out of this world sound design and musical composition is made by the amazing @enequist_ who’s worked on this project with me throughout the whole process.
The 1st and 3rd spaces of the exhibition show ‘Actualisation’ and ‘Polynode’ both created by @lumus.instruments
Actualisation, a kinetic laser installation that uses recordings of events that are figuratively unreal, and contextualizes the recordings with an audiovisual composition.
Polynode, a spatial instrument that generates an audiovisual composition using patterns that move along fifteen vectors. The installation controls sound using nodes that virtually exist within these vectors.
OF NOW is an initiative by @lumus.instruments@juliusoosting@timo_lejeune@timothy_hendrikss with @monopolberlin@joseealarcon
Also, I definitely couldn’t have done this without @juliusoosting@timo_lejeune@timothy_hendrikss and of course @enequist_
