Repost by @gost_books : Photographer Simone Rosenbauer (@simonerosenbauer ) travelled across every state and territory in Australia to document the country’s small and unique museums. Over the course of four years, she visited a disparate range of institutions from the Alice Springs Telegraph Station to the Apple and Heritage Museum, the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame to the Newcastle Gaol, the Carnaby Collection of Beetles and Butterflies to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs.
Simone took nearly 3000 photographs and conducted extensive interviews with museum custodians to delve into Australia’s cultural memory for her book ‘Small Museum.
“Small Museum’ is not just a book-it’s a celebration of Australia’s diverse cultural heritage.
Nestled in rural communities, these small museums hold stories that deserve to be seen and shared. Through this project, I’m shining a light on these unique spaces, inviting readers to explore the intimate environments where passion and dedication have kept cultural treasures alive.
These often-overlooked institutions weave together stories that reflect the rich tapestry of Australian history and identity— offering a reflective exploration of memory, history, and cultural preservation.”

Art In The Home by Michelle 🍦🤩from M Contemporary:
This week we are looking at @simonerosenbauer
Archival Fine Art Pigment Prints (14x14 in/ 355x355 mm), (33.5x33.5 in/850x850 mm),
(63x63 in/ 1600x1600mm) from her LA
photographic series, ‚Like Ice in the Sunshine I!‘!
#26 (above bed) & #50 (right). POA.
This series depicts fleeting moments, chequered memories and the changing identities of the self.
As the sun melts a collection of popsicles we witness colors merging, others separating, some creeping away from their host to pool around the softening whole. Flaking, sloughing, gently seeping - each and every body tells a different story. As bold, joyful and quintessentially summertime as these elegant images are, they also capture a melancholy reality: bitter or sweet, all memories eventually melt into the flow of life.
