Photosensitive 6 Oct - 3 Nov 2023 @commonageprojects “In her photographic practice, Simone Mudde observes the unseen energies of the natural environment. She experiments with colour separation photography – a process where monochrome images are exposed using coloured filters and subsequently layered in the darkroom. The technique, developed in the early 20th century, demands perfect composition and accurate exposure. Mudde plays with this process by allowing alignment issues or glitches of colour to form narratives, and such errors are used to identify the passing of time, the latency of movement, and to further abstract what is perceived by the lens and the eye. Enhancing the colour separation analogue method with digital manipulation, she creates new compositions to further confound how we might read images. Also included in the exhibition is a photogram collage of plant and insect subjects, where Mudde’s analytical eye draws us into the minutiae of detail in these natural specimens with their psychedelic pattern and extraordinary forms. The exhibition follows on from her recent solo show at Lismore Castle Arts, Ireland, and many of the images are derived from the gardens at Lismore Castle and its particular vegetation and landscape.” Curated by @seamusmccormack 53 Old Bethnal Green Rd London E2 6QA [email protected] Opening Hours: Wed–Sat, 10–4pm during cafĂŠ opening hours

It’s the final weekend to see my duo-exhibition with Billy Fraser at sherbertgreen! It's been a lot of fun working towards a show together with curator Mazze Mae Green and Billy Fraser. One of the fruits of this collaboration is a series of unique photograms that Billy and I made together in my darkroom. As soon as I saw his “cubes” I knew I needed to print them in the darkroom! It's incredible how every cube has so many different colour outcomes in the darkroom depending on which side they are printed. The prints are for sale through the gallery and come in a limited edition. Contact @sherbertgreen if you are interested! ✴️

Hyper Natural Open Saturdays and Sundays 12 - 5pm, until 3 September. Venue: St. Carthage Hall, Lismore Curated by Séamus McCormack In Simone Mudde’s solo exhibition Hyper Natural, she reveals unseen energies in the natural environment. Mudde experiments with colour separation photography, a process where monochrome images are exposed using coloured filters and subsequently layered in the darkroom, and through digital manipulation, to create new compositions. The original technique, developed in the early 20th century, demands perfect composition and accurate exposure. However, ‘failures’ including alignment issues or glitches of colour form narratives for Mudde, where such errors are used to identify the passing of time, the latency of movement, and further abstraction of what is perceived within the images. The images in the exhibition will be derived from the natural surroundings of Lismore and the particular architecture of St. Carthage Hall. @seamusmccormack  @simonemudde Install photos at St Carthage Hall @jedniezgoda

My first solo show ‘Hyper Natural’, curated @seamusmccormack is opening on Saturday at St. Carthage hall @lismorecastlearts in Ireland. Its been bliss working together with @seamus and a huge thank you for being so accommodating and helpful @paulmcaree and #lisafoley. This show is the outcome of combining the captivating flora and fauna of the Lismore Castle’s garden with my photographic darkroom in London. 🌿

Chromogenic Colourspace II (A Subjective Colourspace) Four unique photograms on Fuji Crystal Archive DPII photographic paper, 2023 For a long time I have been fascinated by creating a colourspace for analogue darkroom printing. Tomorrow I will launch my second attempt at making a colourspace in the exhibition Opticks at Sherbet Green. The object consists of four photograms that show the reach and the limits of photographic colours in the darkroom. I love how a colourspace is a visual explanation without any words. Even though it shows the possible scope of colours for that moment with that enlarger and that paper, it will forever be subjective as there are so many variables in printing in the darkroom. And in a way this counts for every colourspace: even an RGB colourspace seen on your computer screen can be different to the one shown on someone else's computer screen. #colourspace #colorspace #darkroom #photogram #rgb #cmyk #analog #colour #color

Very Excited to announce that I'm showing new work together with Billy Fraser at Sherbet Green! The show opens on Wednesday the 28th of June and it would be lovely to see you there! "Fraser and Mudde, like many before them, have a distinct interest in interrogating colour and form, combining tones in novel formations to affect new languages and reactions. The graduated and shifting colour patterns resulting from this processual experimentation are laid out across cast tablets and analogue photographs. While Fraser’s geometrical slabs seek to evoke notions of the sublime traditionally pursued in painting, to shift the specific beauty of one medium across to another, Mudde’s images consist of visualisations of the information embedded in the colours themselves, highlighting the ways in which perception is formed. It is this base relationship to process from which their wider practices unfurl." @billy_fraser @sherbet_green @mazzymaegreen
