Beside myself, daunted, deeply excited to be music-directing Dave’s perfect Octet at Hudson Valley Shakespeare this summer. It’s the first new production since the original and it is accessible from New York City! @hvshakespeare
I can’t even begin to count the ways working on Octet has shaped my life over the past 6 and a half years. It’s the first time that I felt like I had a place as a music director in the NYC theater scene, and the first time I received validation in that respect from people I admire in the industry. In many ways, I have grown up with this show; I started transcribing the songs when I was 23, and this year I turn 30.
We had three music rehearsal days this April before we get into July rehearsals— I am already sooooo in love with this cast. They are so up to the challenge of this music and so encouraging of one another. You must come see them August 11-September 7!!
@davemalloy@ormatias@amaginnis when I reached out to let you know I’d be doing this, it meant the world to have your support. Gonna try our best to do you all proud. big shoes to fill!
This is all thanks to Amanda Dehnert and @sheelaramesh . so incredibly grateful to the both of you.
Played piano and taught actors which notes to sing! felt fulfilled and hopeful, and felt not good enough, and had a few existential crises and high highs. lived inside a bunch of stories. traveled across the world some more. hugged my people and dogs. 30 is next that’s weird!
Still riding high from music-directing Kill The Whale by @danielemondmusic at Joe’s Pub this weekend. One of those sweet moments where I feel like I was exactly where I was supposed to be & doing what I should be doing, bringing my full self and skills to something.
Daniel’s music is so extraordinary and specific, based in GROOVE and tasty weird chords and soulful inevitable melodies and eclectic influences. I want to see more theater with music that sounds like this.
Such a huge privilege to lead this all-star cast and band. more soon I hope!!!!! 🐋
[many lovely friends came- thank you again so much for being there 💛]
2023 was such a tough one, honestly. but here’s some of the sweeter times.
