📣 ST03 12th May 2026 I'm really happy to announce the third release on Silver Threads, this time by my partner of 27 years, Emile Facey, aka @plant43 . Spells For Warding Off Evil is a heavy, dense, alternately meditative and cathartic album, and hugely personal for Emile...for both of us, really. We hope you enjoy it 🖤 Spells For Warding Off Evil began with a happy accident during a troubling time. Shortly after Trump’s distressing second inauguration Emile had eye surgery while fully conscious, an intense experience that came with risks. He was advised to rest but couldn’t keep away from the studio where he accidentally pressed the hold function on his Roland SH-101. This led to the discovery that this vintage monosynth was capable of creating thick, rumbling drones as well as the rich analogue bass and lead lines for which it’s usually known. Emile captured and layered these drone experiments, complementing and contrasting them with uncanny field recordings, a disembodied choir, otherworldly tones, and his own signature, bright arpeggios. Meditative at times, as the SH-101 breathes and purrs, at others cathartic and visceral. He made the album record of the week back in December, describing 150twinkl as "one of the most beautiful songs" of the year. I’ve been a wary interviewee for a long time but found chatting to Ben super relaxed and hope that comes across. A really nice surprise to make it into their end of year chart, too. Thanks to @plant43 for the portraits. In the first one I’m standing in front of our cherished Anni Albers print and the second was taken in the woods at our local @kentwildlife reserve. The light is always beautiful there.
