It’s been over a month since the Jo Johnson and Plant43 releases came out on Muzan, and honestly, we should have taken proper photos of these tapes much sooner to show them in all their glory. Even if these glamour shots don’t fully capture the artistry—or the sheer uniqueness—of the music inside, more than a month on we’re still amazed and deeply honored that we were able to work on these releases with two singular artists we’ve followed for many years, and who have been huge inspirations to us. In December, we were also lucky enough to share a show with both of them in Osaka, which felt like another cherry on top of a tower of cherries. Indeed, it’s cherries all the way down 🍒 So it feels only right that our first post of 2026 is a thank you—not only to Jo Johnson and Plant43, but to all the artists who have trusted us with their work, and to everyone who has listened, bought tapes, and come out to our shows. In a very real sense, Muzan wouldn’t have come this far without your support. Thank you, truly. 夢山の100作目として、@aokitakamasa による『Sound for Photo Exhibitions』をリリースできることを大変光栄に思います。 本作には、AOKI takamasaが自身の写真展のために制作した2つのトラックを収録。ギャラリーでループ再生されることを想定して作られており、鑑賞体験に音の奥行きをもたらすと同時に、AOKIの独自の美学が映像と音の境界を超えて広がっていく様子を感じることができます。さらに、デジタル版のボーナスとして、2008年に発表された「Solid Fusion」のedit版も特別収録しました。これら3つの楽曲はいずれも音の質感と空間の雰囲気を重視し、各パートが雲が風のない空で静かに形を変えていくように、ゆっくりと有機的に変化していきます。 夢山はAOKI takamasaの音楽を長年愛聴してきました。彼と実際に出会うずっと前からファンであり、ここ数年でご縁をいただき、親しく交流させていただく機会にも恵まれました。@derive_ambient がAOKIの直近の写真展のオープニングパーティーで2度DJを務めたほか、@endurance010010 はAOKI、@loe_pantherina と共に定期的のアンビエント・パーティー「SLOWMOTION」を共催。そうした経緯もあり、今回の100作目は私たちにとって特別な意味を持つリリースとなっています。 カセットテープは現在完売しておりますが、デジタル版はBandcampにて視聴・購入可能です。 /album/sound-for-photo-exhibitions Mastering by @anonymouseffect Album photography by AOKI takamasa. AOKI presents two longform tracks originally created for his photo exhibitions over the years, designed to be played on loops at the gallery, adding a sonic depth to the viewing experience, as well as highlighting AOKI’s unique approach to artistic creation across mediums. As a digital bonus, we have also included a re-edit of his 2008 track “Solid Fusion”. All three pieces focus on texture and atmosphere, each “part” evolving slowly and organically into the next like clouds changing shape in a windless sky. Muzan have been fans of AOKI’s work for many years – certainly long before ever meeting him – and over the past several years we have had the immense pleasure of getting to know him and work closely with him (Derive invited to DJ at two of AOKI’s last exhibiton openings; and Endurance co-organizing the longform ambient party, SLOWMOTION, with AOKI and Loe) making our 100th release even more special to us. At the end of last month, the @kkum_seoul series posted a live set by Muzan’s own @endurance010010 . t's been a while since we’ve seen a full live recording from Endurance in the wild. Trust us—it’s a real trip! We highly encourage you to head over to Kkum and give it a proper listen. We’ve been huge fans of Kkum for a long time. The curation of their series is seriously incredible. The very first artist to appear in the series was @ariofarah of @astralindustries , and indeed it was Ario who became the catalyst for all of this coming together. We did a show together last October with @yoojun_h (the curator of Kkum and the owner of @vurt_seoul and it was a truly incredible meeting of minds. We’re delighted that this connection has continued to grow—and to deepen—in exciting ways since then. The evening opens around 9:30pm with a live ambient performance by Jo Johnson, whose path has moved from 90s punk (as guitarist in Huggy Bear) through underground techno into a deeply expressive electronic minimalism. Later, Plant43 takes over with a live techno-electro set rooted in early electro and Drexciya-inspired machine funk. A co-founder of the Bleep43 collective, his releases span Ai Records, Semantica, and Cultivated Electronics — a sound shaped by decades inside underground dance culture. Joining them are DJ Morita, DJ Compufunk, Muzan's Endurance, and, from Tokyo, SBAT, with live painting by Running Man. And we team up with them for a special saturday evening-into-night ritual at @murmur.ams in Amsterdam for a deep listening experience. It is no secret that the Selene Series podcasts and events are heavily inspired by Japanese music, and the concepts that shape their beloved ambient: minimalism, harmony, and a good dose of nature love. Muzan Editions from Osaka have quietly become a key part of that musical output, and arriving at murmur together to bring that ‘kissa’ vibe feels like a match made in heaven. We kick off with a soundtracked dinner curated by @derive_ambient from Muzan, master selector with a keen ear for soothing sounds and earworms. Then, the live performances by the amazing @gizemoz__ -we recently had the pleasure to enjoy her at Waking Life, pure bliss- and myself @doc_sounds (yes, after many unofficial lives, first time officially), so you can see the theme of the evening will be soothing atmospheric textures, drenched in reverb melodies and horizontal music.
