ISA Gallery presents the participation of Sillyndris @sillyndris in the “Food for Thought” exhibition at D’Gallerie Jakarta. A place where food becomes the medium for art. Sillyndris, a visual artist who explores the interactions between materiality and human experience, highlights how everyday objects influence our identity and culture. in 'Since You Left, I Cured' depicts a photographic fragment of a pig, framed like processed meat. Instead of depicting it as food, it is symbolized as memory. Something often seen as dirty and unfit for public view. Depicting what is deemed inappropriate carries value and needs to be seen without shame. Meanwhile, What’s Left for Us reflects on a life sustained by leftovers. The bacon-scented fragrance becomes a metaphor for manufactured hope, where desire is stirred, but never fulfilled, turning hunger into a condition of control rather than nourishment. There’s always someone you carry with you when making art. For @sillyndris , it’s the surroundings that shaped his childhood. Born into a family much involved in the food industry, meals were never just fuel; they were textures of nostalgia, each holding a memory of its own. He often finds himself returning to the flavors of sardines and canned food, staples from his upbringing on the border of Riau that now formed the motifs of his work. In his “Biscuit Series,” he reflects on how food functions not merely as an object, but also blessings that are passed from one hand to another through acts of sharing and receiving.  Sillyndris’ food-inspired pieces often begin with real cooking processes: sautéing, freezing, and charring materials before binding them to the canvas. When we asked him where he learned such unique methods, he replied: “I never took any formal art education, so the community is my place. Some of my best lessons came from unexpected places. I used to ask local builders about tools and techniques and the best way to use them in my arts.”  This grounded approach reflects Sillyndris’ values beyond his studio. As he looks back on his artistic journey, the principle he holds closest is honesty. “You can’t just be a good artist, but a good agent, too. You need to know what your art is saying; what kind of message you are putting out.” Even as his style has shifted or external pressures nudged him toward trends, he remains committed to authenticity and to understanding what his art communicates. For fellow creatives, he wisely shared to not be intimidated by where they are, as underdog stories carry a rawness worth celebrating. Beyond the highlights, the tough process is what brings depth and flavor to the work. Sillyndris encouraged us to honor both the struggle and the success, trusting that the big picture is what gives the small moments its meaning. #thegarden #foodart #contemporaryart #artistspotlight #oilpainting #creativeprocess #indonesianartist #thegardeninterviews

PURRification Revenge in Verdine The process of purification through wealth. When something that isn’t truly yours is gently taken by God through His little agent, as a reminder, as a soft cleansing of what you hold. Trust that God is gentle and sometimes His reminders don’t even hurt that much.

This story began when my mother told me that my grandfather had sent over a few empty biscuit tins he had been collecting. He knew that, for the past few years, these tins had become one of my favorite materials to work with. Instead of turning the tins directly into artworks, I found myself drawn to a different perspective. I began reflecting on biscuits and ants, not as simple objects, but as symbols of how sustenance and fortune are distributed in this world. This became the foundation of my piece Soft Biscuit, a work that represents this subtle process of sharing and receiving. Soft Biscuit at Art Moments 2025

Never thought living with buried taxidermy tigers, broken Teletubbies, and Mr. Kadim Squad could be this inspiring. Huge thanks to @_rumahtangga for one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. I responded to every interaction, dust, comedy, and tragedy here. And that's became works I’ve never imagined I’d make. Grateful for all the beautiful mess and magic. Alhamdulillah i survived ! Love besar sebesar kecamatan tapos untuk @_rumahtangga team 💙💙💙 📸 Credit to @patarpribadi

Get to know our resident artist, @sillyndris Sillyndris, (b. 1993, Bandung Indonesia) is an installation artist and creative director. His work seeks to uncover how human consumption patterns are not just about fulfilling needs, but about constructing identity. The everyday objects we use, such as food cans, detergent, household tools, and more are actually symbols of ongoing social transformation. By deconstructing the narratives behind these objects, he invites audiences to rethink their relationships with the overlooked aspects of their daily lives. Sillyndris translates his discoveries into material, using sheets of metal to mirror the structured and rigid nature of consumer culture. The bold, striking colors in his work reflect the relentless efforts of corporations to attract and manipulate consumer desires. By combining these elements, he exposes the underlying forces that shape our habits and behaviors, revealing the tension between personal choice and systemic influence. Sillyndris' vision is to present art as a medium for social reflection, provoking critical thought about how systems shape our habits, and how, in turn, those habits shape us. In a rapidly changing world, his work serves as a space for contemplation of identity as shaped by our daily, often unconscious behaviors. Sillyndris graduated from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, majoring in Resort Management and Leisure (2015) and later pursued a course at MoMA in New York (2019) Photo by @patarpribadi
