We're excited to share a new mini documentary featuring stories about the mural on the Buck O'Neil Bridge. Learn about Buck's legacy through conversations with artist, Phil "Sike Style" Shafer, and the President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Bob Kendrick.
They share stories, walk along the mural, and discuss inspiration behind the imagery and how it relates back to Buck's life, Negro Leagues Baseball, and Kansas City.
You can visit the Buck O'Neil mural under the bridge on 3rd and Broadway, KCMO.
Don't forget the @nlbmuseumkc is free to visit for the rest of February in the historic 18th and Vine District.
It's a great visit for baseball and history fans alike.
If you haven't seen the latest NLBM posts: It's exciting to see the updated renderings of the new NLBM museum being revealed. It's going to be a beautiful new home for Buck's dream of a place where Negro Leagues Baseball players will not be forgotten.

My latest mural installation at Kauffman Stadium, located in the Royals Hall of Fame pairs perfectly with a life-like bronze statue of Buck O'Neil by Harry Weber.
I'm Sike'd for you to check this out next time you're at the K and looking to beat the heat stop by the Royals HOF in the left field concourse.
Big thanks to the Royals for the opportunity and Am and Zeke for the printing and installation.

The Artist Behind KC’s BBQ Museum Room
This is SIKE , one of the most important artists in Kansas City.
If you’ve spent time in KC, chances are you’ve already seen his murals all around the city.
I met up with him at the world’s first BBQ Museum, where he created the “Lost in the Sauce” room. One of the coolest parts of the entire experience.
Moments like this are what made the KC BBQ journey feel bigger than just food.
Full Kansas City BBQ episode is out now on YouTube: MARMO VISION.

Public Art Readiness will take place Tuesday, April 28, from 5:30–7:00 PM at the ArtsKC Gallery, with a virtual option available.

This program is designed to remove common barriers that prevent artists from pursuing public art opportunities—particularly confusion around city processes, eligibility requirements, and application expectations. Through a practical, plain-language discussion, artists will gain a clearer understanding of how public art systems work and how to prepare before opportunities arise.

The session will cover: How Calls for Artists and RFPs function within municipal systems Common eligibility and compliance requirements What it means to remain eligible with KCMO and other municipalities How proposals are reviewed and evaluated What to expect after being awarded a public art commission Where artists can go for clarification and support

The conversation will feature perspectives from across the public art ecosystem, including:
Phil Shafer, local artist and muralist
James Martin, Public Art Administrator, City of Kansas City, Missouri
Ann Holliday, Executive Director of Art in the Loop
Tiffany Meesha Thompson, Founding Director of Petrichor Projects and public art consultant

Together, these voices will provide insight into how public art opportunities are structured, what different stakeholders are looking for, and how artists can begin building experience in the field.
