Iâve cried, cursed, and done victory dances over self-tapes. Here are 5 things that keep me grounded (and sometimes even proud)
1. I tell myself what this is and is not, so I donât obsess over the process. It takes time to get used to making self tapes and I always notice things I couldâve done better, right before I hit âsendâ. But this is not a cosmic referendum on my worth - itâs a showcase of my craft.
2. Eyeline, eyeline, eyeline. When I see the eyes I feel the authenticity of the scene better. I donât have to see them all the time but I always make sure I know where my direction is, so the camera to catches it.
3. Selftapes are never wasted energy, even when it feels like it. They make me sharper each time and hey - I get material for a reel about selftaping lol
4. I look at my old self tapes once in a while and learn from them. Iâm never as critical to my old self tapes as I was when I made them, which allows me to see my process for what it is.
5. High quality equipment is worth it (Iâm saving up for that). Because you canât deny a good picture. No itâs not the reason you get picked, but like with your headshots, you want to present yourself in the best possible way.
Hope this was helpful! đâš
