This spring, Siegel Associates is emerging anew. As we close in on our 30th anniversary, we’re excited to introduce our new brand: Siegel Structural Engineers. New graphics, roles, website—take a look at siegelstructural.com ✨
Every consultant claims to be collaborative, but this means different things to different people. Here’s what it is to Steve…

Spotted on the way home from the @masstimberconference 👀
This recent addition to the @pdxairport was built using prefabricated mass ply panels. The design team worked with local indigenous tribes to harvest and salvage timber, including trees damaged by nearby wildfires. How fitting after a week of mass timber conversations!

Something felt different about the International Mass Timber Conference this year. On its 10th anniversary, the energy was calmer and more intentional, reflecting the growing normalcy of mass timber projects across the US. We’re not just pitching mass timber anymore—we’re engaging with it. We at Siegel see this change in our clients, too—once apprehensive of mass timber technology, architects, designers, and builders across the Northeast are embracing it. Thank you, IMTC, for the work you do in making this possible and for another year of inspiring connections and conversations.

The International Mass Timber Conference is next week! Don’t forget to:
1. Catch Joshua’s panel, “Achieving Cost Clarity for Mass Timber Projects.” Oregon Ballroom 203. Wed 4/1 @ 10:30am-12pm.
2. Book time with Joshua + Steve at the link in our bio today. Exhibit Hall, Aisle 200, Booth 219. Tues 3/31-Wed 4/1 @ 12pm-7:30pm.
About the panel: This presentation introduces a structured methodology for achieving early cost clarity through an integrated design approach that unites client, architect, engineer, and mass timber manufacturer from the schematic design phase, even prior to formal design contracts. This collaboration enables early decisions on module, material, and grid selection based on actual manufacturing and engineering constraints unique to mass timber.
This April, we’re headed back to the International Mass Timber Conference where Joshua will be a featured speaker on the panel “Achieving Cost Clarity for Mass Timber Projects.” He’ll join other mass timber experts to break down accurate early-stage estimating, helping to eliminate the risk-inflated budgets that often stall mass timber projects. Joshua is deeply knowledgeable and quite entertaining—come to his panel if you’re in Portland!
Wednesday 4/1 from 10:30am-12pm.

Ever seen an indoor pool with a hyperbolic roof?
In this natatorium, Stanev Potts Architects shapes the dramatic curve with triangular formations of deep glulam beams. A ribbon of skylights cuts through the infill rafters, filling the golden room with natural light. It’s the kind of ceiling that makes you want to swim backstroke all day long.
