Liza, Queen of Spades ♠️ I had the total pleasure of covering this role this summer for @garsingtonopera and learned so much - of course all of the Russian (thank you @rebekkar_pianist !) but also a lesson in stamina and sensual singing in the most literal sense. I think somewhere over the past few years, I’d forgotten how it felt to actually properly ENJOY the physical sensation of singing (that probs sounds wild but I guess the grind of auditions, sleep deprivation and juggling parenting will do that?!) Anyway, this role and the sensuality that this particular production gave Liza helped to unlock some of that. Tois to the stellar cast of @garsingtonopera Queen of Spades for their final show tonight. It has been an immense joy and also one heck of a journey covering the role of Lisa. A true dream role for me and one that I’ve learned so much from in terms of my own resilience and stamina. I really feel like I’m coming away from this contract having regained some confidence that had gotten a little lost post parenthood, and am so grateful to the incredible team for their immense support - especially when stepping in for the pre-general! Lovely to round off with our cover showcase this week. Feeling (dare I say?!) proud of myself for tackling this immense role ♠️ @jefurness created a dream production and what a dreamy cover cast we had. Excellent vibes all round.
