Young legs. Big future. At just 19 years old, Aeramiah Binford is already making noise as one of the youngest professional dunkers in the world. A current JUCO hooper with unreal bounce, raw explosiveness, and insane potential, he’s a fast-rising star built for the spotlight. šŸš€ @showtimemiah #DUNKMANLeague

FULL ONE FOOT JUMPING GUIDE šŸ‘‡ A lot about what we know about 1 foot jumping comes from analysis of high jumpers, which was popularized (pioneered) Dr. Jesus Dapena He found that 1 foot jumping is primarily determined by 2 things, how low you are and how fast you are going into your takeoff. From a science standpoint, jump height is determined by how much impulse you generate on the ground and your COM height at takeoff. And in the case of 1 foot jumping, the combined eccentric and concentric impulse both contributes towards jump height as the COM is rising nearly the entire time due to the ā€œhinge momentā€, even when the takeoff leg is still flexing. Vs in a 2 foot jump where only the concentric portion determines jump height and the eccentric potentates the concentric. Practically, to take in more speed, you need to make sure you are accelerating throughout the your approach, not decelerating, which you’ll see with a SLOW last 2 steps or an athlete who starts out too fast. Your stride frequency should gradually get faster. Technically high jumpers will reach usually reach peak speeds either the step before and at touchdown of the penultimate, but for all purposes just think about accelerating through the plant and jumping up (not out). Bringing in more speed will increase the force side of the impulse equation. Getting lower comes from having a long penultimate step going into the takeoff. Make sure you roll through the contact with your shin close to parallel with the ground and put the takeoff leg out in front of you while you lean back, this will increase the ROM over which you have to apply force (maximizes ā€œtimeā€ so to speak though usually jumpers will end up trading more force for less time on the ground because they’re loading and extending their legs so fast). BUT KEEP IN MIND, how much speed you can handle and how low you can get without buckling is determined by your eccentric leg strength. So you make sure you are not only optimizing your jump technique but also increasing your overall force generating capacities Shoutout @michiganstatebasketball for the opening clip

The importance of eccentric strength in 1 foot jumping: Unlike in 2 foot jumping, the COM is rising (ascending) nearly the entire time in one foot jumping, which means how much force you generate eccentrically not only loads your tendons but also directly contributes to increasing jump height. Raising eccentric capacity also increases your ability to brake greater speeds & get lower in your plant, both of which improve impulse accretion to improve takeoff velocity & subsequent jump height. To further illustrate this, research from Dr. Phil Graham Smith on Olympic track and field jumpers (triple & long jump) has identified one of the largest separating factors between Olympians & college level jumpers is the amount of eccentric quad torque they can generate (Olympians can hit 5.5x BW ecc torque on a dynamometer). šŸ‘‰DM me CHALLENGE if you want to apply for our FREE THP 6 week challenge: Gain 3 inches of vertical in 6 weeks

National NIL Sports is proud to welcome Laramie County Community College forward @showtimemiah Aeramiah Binford to our roster. Aeramiah’s game is defined by toughness, efficiency, and impact. Shooting 53% from the field, crashing the glass at nearly 5 rebounds per game, and creating disruption with 25 steals, he brings physicality and production every time he steps on the floor. With 21.9 points per 40 minutes, his upside & athletic ability speaks for itself. We’re excited to support Aeramiah as he continues to elevate his game, expand his platform, and build his brand at the next level. Powered by @nationalnilsports | #nilbuilt

If you want to jump higher off 1 foot, you need to maximize your physics. One key aspect of maximizing your physics for 1 foot is understanding the difference between an active plant vs a passive plant. Because your COM is rising almost the entire takeoff duration during a one foot jump due to the hinge mechanism, even when the takeoff leg is flexing, the impulse you generate EARLY in the takeoff still contributes directly towards the ā€œconcentric impulseā€ (COM ascent impulse) which increaes your jump height (vs in a two foot jump the eccentric portion potentates the concentric). One way to maximize the vertical force you generate immediately at impact is by having an ā€œactiveā€ plant by using the hip to drive the foot down into the ground while the foot still stays in well in front of the COM (remember this isn’t a long jump takeoff). This also functions to generate high activity in the entire leg and prepare it for ground contact, as you can see in the high jump example. Just be mindful of foot position and that you’re getting a quick heel to flat foot transition (don’t just slam the back of your heel into the ground). This is NOT a stomp, rather it’s a consequence of having aggression going into the takeoff & preparing the leg for ground contact. For most athletes this isn’t something they consciously need to think about as long as they are low and fast (relative to their abilities), but for others they may find themselves casting the leg passively out in front and turning a 1 foot takeoff into a sloppy single leg CMJ takeoff rather than a true deflection off the floor with efficient transfer of horizontal to vertical momentum šŸ‘‰Comment TECHNIQUE if you want your jump technique (1 foot & 2 foot) analyzed for FREE by our staff at THP!
