In celebration of 30 yrs of one of my favorite artists of all time the
@backstreetboys , a song, that has seen me through some of the worst times of my life, & by a band that has inspired me in more ways than i can ever express!
With them coming to #egypt next month, saying that I’ve been influenced by these 5 guys is an understatement;
so I’ll just tell you that one of my oldest memories is in 1996, when I was singing “Quit playing games with my heart” in art class & having my art teacher come up to me & tell me I should I join the school choir… in 1997 I learned some of my first dance moves when I learned the choreo to ‘Everybody’ & learned how to harmonize with songs like “All I have to give’ and ‘as long as you love me’… then 2 years later to “Larger Than Life” & ‘I want it that way’ … that the first song I ever dared to sing outside of my bedroom was in the 9th grade (2000) w/
@thebanjo in IB English class, where I sang ’More than that’ & ‘Shape of my heart’ & she asked me why I never told her I can sing, to which my response was,“what? What do you mean I can sing?”
I remember the summer of ‘05 after my first year of college, where my best friends, (mainly
@mostafajoe1 ) & I on the beach in the North Coast (Sahel), listening to the ‘Never Gone’ album until the sun rose & singing our lungs out!
In 2007, driving to college and listening to ‘Inconsolable’… singing ‘Bigger’ as I drove to my graduation… & after 2010, the darkest year of my life,
screaming ‘Show me what you’re made of’ in 2013 with my eyes welling up.
Finally, as a grown ass man now, driving around with
@seramonzer & singing all the above & more, because we had a bad day, then feeling better after we were done.
