Come to the premiere of my project, New Music City (in Manhattan Chinatown), on February 23rd from 2–3 PM, hosted by MOCA @mocanyc . We will meet at the museum first, where you will receive a designed map with instructions and information to create your own aleatoric sound walk. New Music City draws inspiration from the concept of Ubiquitous Music, structuring routes informed by Chinatown’s history of protest and resilience. This project guides performers through historically significant sites where demonstrations once took place, carrying forward this heritage and fulfilling these locations as living, modern soundscapes. Performers will carry music both intricately and spontaneously, while audiences, following a guided map, will navigate the area through improvised paths with suggested sites, encountering performances in pure aleatory. Functioning as a silent protest, this sonic interpenetration of daily life amplifies the voices of heritage, reimagining the city’s auditory landscape through intrusive sounds—music, in this case. Ultimately, the project explores how sound shapes our perception of place and history, fostering a deeper awareness of auditory experiences as integral to culture and daily life. Today we are announcing the upcoming release of the solo piano album ‘skandha’ by composer-pianist @shinya_side_effect Shinya Lin. The full album will be released on October 10, 2024. ‘skandha’ delves into the realms of Eastern philosophy, drawing particular inspiration from Buddhist concepts. Divided into five distinct parts, each corresponding to one of the ”five aggregates,“ it explores the interconnectedness of fundamental aspects of existence—form, feeling, cognition, life force, and consciousness. More information will be announced soon. Stay tuned! #piano #solopiano #contemporarymusic #sketchedimprovisation #avantgardemusic #newyork #chaospacenyc #shinyalin

#newrelease on YouTube! Vibraphonist and composer Yuhan Su takes the stage in a special trio edition, featuring Michaël Attias on saxophone and Shinya Lin on piano along with live electronics. Together, they present music from Su’s 2025 album OVER the MOONs, as well as a series of new works, including the world premiere of Symphony Behind the Hills. At the center is Su’s vibraphone—a meeting point of melodies, harmonies and rhythms, functioning as a painter of sonic landscapes. Her music is shaped by memories and language, drawing from her upbringing in Taiwan and her fluency in Mandarin. Shinya Lin brings a distinct sonic approach, combining self-developed electronic instruments, prepared piano, and free improvisation. Michaël Attias adds his deeply collaborative and inquisitive voice on saxophone. Navigating the spaces between composition and improvisation, the trio explores counterpoint, timbre, and rhythmic gravity, crafting pulsing soundscapes full of surprise and color. YUHAN SU - NUANCE live @ Konzerthaus, Berlin | 2026 STOP OVER 4 – Perspectives (Part 1) The “STOP OVER” event series by “Zentrum Under Construction” has been exploring key aspects of the future institution „House of Jazz – a center for jazz and improvised music“ since 2023. Three internationally renowned musicians have been invited to shape one evening each within this three-day series. The development of a center for jazz and improvised music is a joint project of the Deutsche Jazzunion, IG Jazz Berlin and Till Brönner. Funding is provided by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media. ====== Live at Jim Hall: Shinya Lin Quartet Date: 25th Apr, 2026 Time: 8-10pm Venue: Fountain (San Po Kong) Entry: $180 (Standard) | $90 (Student) Shinya Lin - Piano Jonas Cho - Saxophone Wenjun Wu - Bass Hsienwen Chen - Drums 如欲購票,請到,或翻騰link in bio @fountaindechopin

Had a great time at SEPTA2 this past weekend Grateful to catch up with friends and to make it to first place again. Love seeing the community grow and how caring and welcoming everyone always is. Being told by players in their 40s to keep going with your hobbies and stay joyful was a big lesson for me, especially since I’ve been feeling down and trying hard to keep up with a stressful 24/7 work schedule (iykyk). Continuing to learn from the community and care for one another will be a goal of mine in 2026. Photos 📸 by the one and only Sydia of all time

Just discovered this article featuring my project New Music City from my residency at @mocanyc earlier in 2025. Thank you to World Journal (世界新聞網) for attending the presentation and thoughtfully sharing the work. Wishing we’ll be able to present this again in some form in the future.

XA8 with the quartet. My XA series of works started around fall 2024 as a way to catalog new piano oriented pieces, which would help me further evolve my compositional practice. After about a year of endless experimentation and critical thought I realized it would be good to put a group of friends together to start figuring out this music as a dialogue. I’m very appreciative of the time that Shinya, Noam & Mathias have spent with me on this stuff and I’m hoping to get it out on the bandstand soon. XA8 is quite challenging due to the type of elasticity that I like to impose on it, yet when we pull it off it has such a beautiful, meditative intensity to it. ‘XA Quartet’ is @noamborns — Synth @shinya_side_effect — Piano @mathiashjensen — Bass Ilia Rayskin — Drums Also big S/O to @sheysway for engineering the sound and helping with the video. Mix/Master/Video Edit by Skinray.
