Artists at Work at the V&A and the work of @jacquiramraykaceramics !
A 2024 highlight = joining Jacqui at one of her workshops and bringing along a Guyanese sugar sample from the @wearelondonmuseum collection (also being that object’s security detail for the day).
Even better listening to everyone’s stories, getting messy with some clay, and now being part of the exhibition soundscape.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m a dance obsessive and nothing speaks to me more. So opening our new Caribbean Voices: Shaping Docklands trail this weekend with this performance of Caribbean cultural dance by @melvinamoves_nzingadance and her daughters was the best way to wrap up January 2025. This dance style was originally not only performance, but also a method of communication allowing people to send vital messages.
Cough, cough… you can start February 2025 with a visit to London Museum Docklands to experience this trail exploring the riiiiich Caribbean history of Tower Hamlets. I’ve had the pleasure of working on it with our gorgeous community partners @playworkeramber , @madanm_coolie , @takingshape_london , @melvinamoves_nzingadance and the lovely Barry for the past 6 months (has it only been 6 months?)
As you can hopefully tell from slide 2 they were pleased with the end product and also orange was the vibe.

Back again to say that the incredible @jacquiramraykaceramics is running workshops at the V&A as part of her role as Global Ceramics resident! I had the privilege of joining one a few weeks ago and bringing an object from the Museum of London collections for the participants to handle. It was a sample of sugar from early 20th century Berbice and the conversations we had around the object whilst manipulating the clay were so interesting. Highly recommend following Jacqui and her work and attending a workshop if you can.
For #windrushday I wrote this piece on Indo-Caribbean Windrush migrants with the help of the lovely @salinajaneart@jana and @roti.riot who kindly shared their family histories with me. It was an honour to shed a bit more light on this underrepresented aspect of the Windrush story. Link in bio.

I was joined by the brilliant @jana and her lovely Dad on @bbcasiannetwork with @luke_wolstenholme to talk about Indo + Caribbean and Windrush. Sadly missed the food but trust that won’t be happening ever again 😋 You can listen at the link in bio (1:37:00)

Today was the first day of Indo + Caribbean at the Museum of London Docklands. Brilliant to see the poster around the Museum and to feel the enthusiasm. Make sure you come and visit, it’s on for 6 months.

Super excited to share news of the digital exhibition I have been working on for the past few months at the Migration Museum. Heart of the Nation explores the incredible migration story of the NHS. Check out this piece about the exhibition in The Guardian (link in bio) and then go take in the exhibition when it goes online on Monday! I’ll be spamming the link for y’all and putting it in my bio too
