Being here in Accra, Ghana has already changed me in ways I’m still finding words for. I came to research African dance and its connection to contemporary practice — but what I have received is far more than research. It’s wisdom, history, memory, spirit, power, and community.
In just a little over a week, I’ve learned so much about the traditional dance forms and their roots — Seeing the link between what is tradition and what is evolving today has been mind-opening and deeply grounding.
To every dancer, teacher, @thebest_twitches@real_azonto_u.s@francis_newman37 and more anaizing people i have learnt from and met so far — thank you. The strength, devotion, and heart in the dance here is truly something rare and sacred. It touches something that feels beyond words and have honestly not experienced in my prior dance community before.
I hope this energy can continue to travel and be felt across borders —
I am honored to be here, learning, listening, witnessing.
And I’m looking forward to the next two weeks with an open heart — ready to receive more. 🤍✨

Bawren Tavaziva returned to the renowned @in2itfestival International Dance Festival in #Kristiansund, #Norway this March 2026, alongside company dancer @jessica_chamberss
Together with local dancer @shelmithseth , they created a new version of #Requiem — Bawren’s critically acclaimed work first performed at the @nationalgallery in 2025. This powerful collaboration was presented at the Festival’s stunning new venue, @kulturhuset_normoria , where it was met with an enthusiastic response.
A firm favourite at the festival, Bawren Tavaziva also led a popular masterclass with Norwegian dance students.

SHELMITH ØSETH & CHROMOPHILIA i Havgapet! Lørdag 11. april kl 14.
Det er en stor glede å vise til et helt nytt samarbeid med koreograf og danser @shelmithseth som i en ung alder allerede har hatt en innholdsrik karriere.
Hun skal danse i morgen til vernissagen ved @torunn.skjelland sin separatutstilling CHROMOPHILIA (11/4-3/5 26).
Øseth er en kenyansk-norsk frilansdanser og bevegelseskunstner basert i Bergen og Oslo.
Shelmiths arbeid bygger bro mellom samtidsdans og tradisjonelle afrikanske danseformer som indlamu og pantsula fra Sør-Afrika, og isukuti fra Kenyas Luhya-stamme.
Via sine opptredener utforsker hun temaer som identitet, migrasjon og kulturell interseksjonalitet – og henter inspirasjon fra sin personlige erfaring med å navigere i flere kulturer.
Gjennom hele karrieren har Shelmith samarbeidet med anerkjente institusjoner, inkludert Det Norske Teater i Oslo, Den Nationale Scene i Bergen, Nordic Black Theater, Bergen Kunsthall. Internasjonalt har hun opptrådt på arenaer som Teater ZeBU, The Nordic Beasts i Danmark og Wiels i Brussel.
