Poet As Witness: Central American Counterpoetics. In-Person & Streaming on Zoom | Thursday | May 28 | 7-9pm For the latest installment in the Poet as Witness reading series, Join us as we travel to one of the smallest yet perhaps most significant epicenters for counterpoetics in all of LATAM: Central America. This Poet as Witness installment gives voice to only a few contemporaries working either within this diverse region or within its diaspora, representing the richness and multifaceted nature of the zone across different countries, experiences and literary voices. With readings from Bessie Flores Zaldivar (@bessiefloreszaldivar ), Sheila Maldonado (@shelamal ) , Raquel GutiĂŠrrez (@raquefella ) and Wingston GonzĂĄlez (wingston.gonzalez) with translator UrayoĂĄn Noel (@uranol ). Copies of books will be available for sale. RSVP at the link in our bio!

In Carina del Valle Schorske’s intimate conversation with Sheila Maldonado, she reflects on “the ways she knows” to stay with the craft: “ All over this country for sure. I meet people who feel displaced and not right with how things are, for whom doubt is belief, who make their own particular ways. Those are the ways I know,” she says. Read the full interview on Aster(ix)’s latest issue. Available now in print and online at Aster(ix)journal.com.

Honored and pissed to b part of this effort that shouldn’t have to b. Help @fundtexaschoice get women access to abortions by flying them out of state cuz they can’t get them there. Please see link in bio to donate share and get poems by poets from all over the country writing to support their work. Thank you.

The full version of the conversation between @semifluentmundo and I for This Woman’s Work is up @asterixjournal . It’s a couple of 1000 words more and more pix. It was one trip to just scratch the surface of these memories, a whole other to make them public. Thank u for all the sharing and supporting of the RS version. Thank u Carina for the now decade long conversation, it’s been a match from jump. Thank u Angie @writercruz for the Pisces writer kinship going back to the 20th century. I did this for the journal and cuz Carina asked, did not expect it to go where it did. I have been especially happy to hear from the freelancer artists who live this life. This has made me begin to face the archive that is this apt and try to deal with where the hell I and we r in the media mirror of this absurd world. I wish I could retire I do my best to do just that every day but still have to survive as we all do. Please do keep me in mind for good solid labor, poem/prose writing editing speaking reading translating teaching overthrowing shit general hustling, you have already and I really appreciate it. Thank u staff of Aster(ix) and all women in words and music for your unseen work. More 📸 here thinking abt offices and what came up in the conversation: 1. spread from Blaze the very defunct Vibe spinoff 1999 2. reading hard copy late nite at Condé 2016 3. not swooning at a gala with Latina staff 1997 4. strolling in Latina offices midtown 1997 5. negatives from Tribe concert at Brown 1992 6. in the BX skreets 1998 7. on volcanic rock El Salvador Turlington shoot 1998 8. after Poetry Project reading with Carina 2022 9.
