She has also poured her heart and soul into Basil King, an award-winning dark-comedy mafia universe that has made waves in Austin and just made its online debut through the notable and increasingly popular YouTube platform, Crafty. Beyond her creative endeavors, Sheilava is passionate about mentorship and community impact. Outside of filmmaking, she works as a mentor and instructor for the nonprofit Anthropos Arts, helping teens and at-risk youth in schools throughout the Greater Austin area. She also thoroughly enjoys launching and hosting benefit events for charities and using her platform to lift up and advocate for those who deserve to be seen and heard. It's Hard Not to be Romantic About Time Travel is screening with the @chattfilmfest and we couldn't be more excited! I've heard nothing but great things about the fest and looking forward to getting out there and watching some movies and meeting some filmmakers! A lot of awesome filmmaker friends I've met over the years on the circuit have films there, so we're in good company! 5 years ago today I announced to the world that a little Annie was on the way. Every Mother’s Day since then has been extra special because I’ve been blessed with the smartest, silliest, most wonderful little girl I could’ve asked for. Even when Annie was just a lil’ jellybean baby growing in my belly, I would listen to the recording of the ultrasound and smile at the sound of her tiny heartbeat every single night before going to bed, up until the day she was born. 💜 Grateful to all of the amazing people in my life who taught me everything I know about how to love and be loved so that I could ultimately be the best momma I possibly can to this little joy of life

I was nominated “Best Filmmaker” by @austinchronicle … This is a really, really big deal for me, and I’m still trying to process it. 🥹 Thank you to those who believed me from the start, thank you to those who choose to believe in me again and again with each passing year and each new endeavor. Thank you to those who nominated me and to those who vote for me going forward. But this honor is not just mine, it is a shared one. A filmmaker is only as good as the crew that helps bring their overall vision to life and the actors that make the story believable. A leader is only as good as the surrounding community that supports, encourages, and enriches them. And a creative is only as good as the people they collaborate and communicate with to ultimately bring life and awareness to the work itself. Seeing my name next to Richard Linklater‘s put me in a weird sense of awe. He is one of my all-time favorite indie filmmakers and I never once imagined I might ever be grouped in any sort of block of text or category alongside him. It is beyond honorable, but again, I didn’t get here on my own. Thank you to whoever chose to nominate me and anyone who chooses to vote for me. I promise I will always keep choosing to try my best in return, no matter what stage or path or endeavor lies ahead.
