Mahalo nui Loa to Hawaii and this whole beautiful family of writers, cast and crew of Rescue HI Surf! Too many spoilers in my on set photos so for now enjoy the view and 4am drives to set.
Was so thrilled to be directing on this show for so many reasons but when I tell you how hard this crew works Hawai’i will bring all the elements to your day — all day, everyday — next level! And they never stop. The whole show is filled with so much Aloha — you don’t want to miss this one when it comes out later this year! Me ke aloha! Can’t wait to come back!
"My grandfather was a proud American and World War Two veteran. He served in the European theatre and saw firsthand the horrors of Nazi Germany. He was a liberator of the Ohdruf concentration camp and was forever changed by the horrors he witnessed there.
One might say that Staff Sergeant Patrick Coyle was ANTIFA because he fought against fascism. So when Trump and his administration throw the word ANTIFA around to try and shame protestors, I wear it like a badge of honor. Because if my Papa was ANTIFA then I am too.
So I chose to honor him and his courage and his sacrifice by putting his picture on my No Kings protest sign. I also wore the FDR shirt because Patrick and my grandma, his beloved wife and dedicated Democrat, Phyllis, adored Roosevelt and his many policies that benefited America."

A Signs of the Time conversation with Ms. Democracy in Washington DC
SOTT: Tell me about your elaborate costume, sash and flag.
DEMOCRACY: I am Ms. Democracy. I came from Philly and just wanted to come here to DC and share with my fellow veterans today on Veterans Day. I want to express that we need to defend our democracy because this administration wants us poor, they want us sick, they want us uneducated, and they want us hungry, and we don't think it's fair. I think every human deserves the right to have a quality of life and the pursuit of happiness.
SOTT: And you've done this protest in other places?
DEMOCRACY: Usually, my sash says that I'm the Gulf of Mexico. Today, I am Democracy. I've been to Philly, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia. Sometimes, I am dressed up as an Avelo Airlines attendant and I go to the airport to protest with handcuffs on because they're one of the airlines deporting immigrants illegally.
SOTT: Tell me about your military service and what brought you to this particular rally.
DEMOCRACY: I was active duty Army for over seven years, and after that I became a teacher. So I also protect children which this administration doesn't seem to be doing very well. This was one of the closest veterans rallies, and I wanted to be with my fellow veterans today.

From the very first note at the David Byrne show, this little child in front of us threw up his arms and never once stopped dancing and singing along. Neither did we!
23 years ago I asked this guy to DJ my birthday party on November 13th at AFI Fest. We’d been talking deeply about films and art and music for a few weeks at that point. 5 days later we kissed. 7 years later we got married — the 2nd summer of love in CA. Happy real anniversary @jeanpierrecaner — after this year — you’re invincible!
It’s been a helluva spin around the sun this time. Wishing for Brighter days ahead!
But even as terrible as this year has been I’m the luckiest lady to have so much art , music, film and TV and incredible friends and family that I adore! They make all the marches and ICE watches and protests worth fighting for! Bring it on for this new spin!
