Just a reminder to shine bright! Another great pic from @capsizedmedia , thanks for turning this 4 into a 5 🤘😂 This past 6 months has been some of the most trying times that I’ve experienced in a while. My health took such a huge nosedive that I couldn’t even teach yoga, let alone do yoga or CrossFit, and even worse I missed this entire surf season! For 4 months I kept waking up feeling even sicker than the day before, not having any clue of what was deteriorating my health, eventually it was found to be black mold. My health took an immediate rise when I adjusted my living conditions, I love the quote “you can have a hundred problems, but if you have a health problem, you only have one”. A lot of people don’t know this, but right before that I was dealing with an attempted “character assassination”. Someone took a bunch of things I said and repeated them out of context, it was so bad that a lawyer had to get involved! I was absolved of any wrong doing, with the exception of being way too open and honest 😂 (I have the “gift” of communication, it’s painfully easy for me to not just shut the fuck up) The point of this post is that EVERY morning I woke up and immediately my mind was filled with all the worries and uncertainties that I was struggling with. It was all too easy to become engulfed with the stress of the “hypothetical”, but rather than let my mind run rampantly into the past or future, I understood that giving energy to those things wouldn’t change the outcome, so what can I do in THIS moment? I would say the biggest impact I had daily was allowing myself to meditate on the things I was thankful for, not gas lighting or lying to myself, but what were the thing at that moment in time that brought me the most peace and joy. Trading gratitude for stress, joy over fear. Life isn’t fair, this is the only constant that we can bank on. But one of the few things we can control is our reaction and thoughts, the good news is it’s up to you!

This is 50! It’s NOT my Birthday, I’m actually closer to 51, I just needed a caption to post this great pic from a recent @theyogasocietypb photo shoot 😂 I’m officially at the “damn kids, get off my lawn” age, or it’s unreasonably upsetting when a store changes their floor plan, but weekend naps after a workout are a bigger “life reward” than you ever imagined, and it actually is nice knowing you’re not the main character to everyday life. Some parting words of wisdom for all my friends in their mid 30’s… - Movement is life - Comfort will kill you, keep showing up and doing the hard things - Motivation will fail you - If I relied on my emotions to get anything done, nothing would ever get accomplished. Discipline is the only thing that will keep you consistent (your mind lies to you all the time) - Don’t be afraid to suck at new things - I started yoga at 41, CrossFit at 45, and @thepatriot_games at 49, don’t stop learning how to learn - Everything hurts - The biggest misconception is that I must feel great because of yoga and CrossFit… Wrong! I feel strong, I feel fit, but something is usually hurt or sore, it’s the price you pay for staying active - And finally, have passions that keep you going - If you don’t have a passion yet, find it and cultivate it. I like yoga, crossfit, and shooting, but I love surfing. It’s a serotonin, dopamine, and endorphin producing factory, you’ll need those chemicals so that you’re not the stereotypical “old and crabby” 50 year old 😂 Good talk everybody, mazel tov!

I hope you all have that “passion” in your life that makes you as happy as surfing makes me

Just some cool footage of steam rising off me from the 1st heat of the morning. Was pretty chilly and the stage was adding a 40lb ruck sack to the additional 15lb plate carrier with full gear, burpees have never felt so heavy 😩 2nd @thepatriot_games event at Frostproof (ironically) in the books, thanks for hosting an awesome event, gonna prepare better for the 3rd!
