When radical change calls, do you pick up the phone?
There is no birth (or rebirth) without gestation, a period that calls for rest, caution, hope, and the inevitability of a painful ending to a cycle. What’s on the other side of that pain? In my case, it’s looking a lot like responsibility, but it’s responsibility that I want. I’m hoping for some peace, love, and happiness in the mix too!
I am working on something big. I hope it will benefit a lot of people, including me, but it’s not a business idea. I won’t be building an empire. It’s more like planting and managing a community garden (in the least literal sense but I think the analogy still works). The community part means I’m going to need a lot of help from people that I trust.
I can’t explain the whole thing here, but this extremely vague call to action is directed towards music curators and DJs that I trust and agree with, artists and producers whom I’ve already expressed a sincere appreciation of, mp3 hoarders and archivists, computer science and web design nerds who can share knowledge, and ideally an informal legal advisor or two. I will also need some money, so if you have some extra and are open to me pitching to you, please make yourself known.
We will not be directly making money with this idea. It’s about preserving things that would otherwise be lost to time, redistributing cultural resources, informing a new generation of music listeners, and reclaiming some important-to-life things that have been stolen from us by the powers that be. Doing all of that requires generosity.
If you read all of this and you think you might want to work with me in some capacity, let me know and I will add you to a contact list. I’m going to try to make everything super easy for everyone involved, and the potential rewards will be obvious when I let you know what I’m talking about! Thanks for being good people!
