A visual artist and artistic researcher, she explores Caribbean life, tradition, heritage, and memory through film, video, installation, photography, theatre, and mixed media.
Sharelly Emanuelson grounds her work in her personal history and archives, reinterpreting stories through experimental and interdisciplinary methods. Her work has been shown internationally, including at the Rijksmuseum and MoCA Taipei, and in 2020 she won the Volkskrant Visual Art Audience Award. She is the founder of Uniarte and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Amsterdam.

As part of our Academic Zine-Making Retreat, you’re invited to an intimate gathering at Mondi Lodge, Curaçao. Together we’ll reflect on current research impact practices in the Caribbean: what’s working, where improvements are needed, and what role art plays in ensuring more meaningful impact.
Researcher and practitioner Richenel Ansano will share insights from decades of work in memory, heritage, and healing, in conversation with artists Ralph Winedt and Sharelly Emanuelson. They will help us situate our reflections within the longer history—and future—of Caribbean research.

🇳🇱 Afgelopen donderdag was de opening van de solo-tentoonstelling Between a Dance and Sitting in a Chair van Sharelly Emanuelson. Dit is de derde museale midcareer presentatie van een kunstenaar waarmee CBK Zuidoost een intensieve band heeft; Charl Landvreugd en patricia kaersenhout gingen haar voor.
De reacties van het publiek waren lovend en men was zeer onder de indruk van de tien video-installaties van Sharelly.
Naast de expositie hebben wij een uitgebreid publieksprogramma in samenwerking met onder andere If I Can’t Dance, Island(er)s at the Helm, Li-Ma, Museumnacht Amsterdam, Bijlmerbios, Imagine IC en Caithlin Chong.
Iedereen is van harte welkom om deel te nemen aan de verschillende programma-onderdelen. Op onze website vindt u meer informatie over hoe u zich hiervoor kunt aanmelden.
De tentoonstelling is geopend van donderdag tot en met zondag van 13.00 uur t/m 18.00 uur en is te zien tot en met zondag 24 november.
🇬🇧 Last Thursday was the opening of Sharelly Emanuelson’s solo exhibition Between a Dance and Sitting in a Chair. This is the third museum mid-career presentation by an artist with whom CBK Zuidoost has an intense connection; Charl Landvreugd and patricia kaersenhout preceded her.
The audience was impressed and they praised Sharelly for her amazing works: were laudatory and people were very impressed by Sharelly’s ten video installations.
Besides the exhibition, we have an extensive public programme in collaboration with If I Can’t Dance, Island(er)s at the Helm, Li-Ma, Museumnacht Amsterdam, Bijlmerbios, Imagine IC and Caithlin Chong, among others.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the various programme elements. On our website, you will find more information on how to register.
The exhibition is open Thursday to Sunday from 1pm to 6pm and will be on view until Sunday 24 November.

De tentoonstelling is in samenwerking met Thami Mnyele Foundation, een stichting die de culturele uitwisseling tussen kunstenaars uit Afrika en de diaspora met Nederland, Amsterdam in het bijzonder, bevordert.
In de tentoonstelling weerspiegelt Sharelly Emanuelson de levensgeest van het Caribisch - de warmte en het vrolijke eilandgevoel. Tegelijkertijd legt ze de onderliggende laag bloot van de gevolgen van het kolonialisme op de eilanden, gevolgen die tot op de dag van vandaag doorwerken. Ze laat dit zien aan de hand van thema’s als taal, ecologie, dans of beweging, onderwijs, armoede, handel en toerisme.
Het is de derde museale midcareer solo als productie van CBK Zuidoost, na die van Charl Landvreugd (2019) en patricia kaersenhout (2022).
