Here are a few images from my show, The Cascades @stanleypicker . More to come. Repost from  @stanleypicker Daniel Shanken ‘The Cascades’ focuses on networks of information that run in the background of our lives, filtered and curated by intelligent algorithms that push bias and dissonance. The exhibition creates a spontaneous environment that allows viewers to enter through interfaces other than the normal internet screen space confronted on a daily basis. The work reflects the remnants of discarded technological production, oversaturated media landscapes, data centres, landfills, and mining tunnels. It draws on the intangible data-points, AI algorithms, and rendered objects often encountered in the periphery. Daniel Shanken ‘The Cascades’ runs until 22 April 2023* Open Tues-Sat 11am-5pm *Closed Fri 7 & Sat 8 April Images: Daniel Shanken ‘The Cascades’ Stanley Picker Gallery installation view. AI and the Paradox of Agency visas nu på Bildmuseet 🎨 En av konstnärerna, Daniel Shanken, presenterar en installation där besökarna läses av i realtid. Hör honom berätta om verket. AI and the Paradox of Agency är Bildmuseets stora internationella utställning där konstnärer utmanar maktstrukturerna bakom artificiell intelligens. @shankends @umarts.research @uma_architecture #bildmuseet #aiandtheparadoxofagency

Happy to share a sliver of Lacuna, my new commission for the exhibition AI and the Paradox of Agency, opening Friday March 13 at @bildmuseet Lacuna captures fleeting images of visitors, extracting their visual profile, flattening them into uncanny rooms, landscapes, and interior/exterior spaces. Generated live using locally run models trained on my early 2000s photography, the images carry an eerie nostalgia and mundanity that can slip by as something familiar and undetected. Commissioned by Bildmuseet, Umeå University with additional support from WASP-HS and UmArts Umeå. Curated by @littlecurator and Katarina Pierre. Last image of the installation thanks to a review in @vasterbottenskuriren Great to be exhibiting with such an amazing list of artists: Boredomresearch, Tega Brain, Dennis Delgado, Linda Dounia Rebeiz, Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg, Nicolas Gourault, Zeno Gries, Lawrence Lek, Rachel Maclean, Stephen Marche, Lauren Lee McCarthy, Florian Model, Yuri Pattison, Planetary Portals, Raqs Media Collective, Caroline Sinders & Romy Gad el Rab, Paola Torres Núñez del Prado, and Addie Wagenknecht.

Video documentation from Memory Hole (2025), installed in a disused shop at Amager Centret in Copenhagen. The work was developed during my residency @fabrikkenffkd . There are glimpses of the physical installation alongside excerpts from the self-generating video, narrated and live-edited by a local LLM and an animatronic monkey. (Sound on 🔊) More info and images on my website soon.

Some photos from my solo show Memory Hole, installed in a disused store at Amager Centret mall in Copenhagen last month. The work was developed during my three-month residency at @fabrikkenffkd . Thanks to Maria Gry Bregnbak and the team at Fabrikken for organising the space/logistics. The work is pieced together from fragments and bits, stripped and collected from discarded electronics, toys, massage chairs, and cages. Keeping detritus (mannequins, signs, stands, Xmas trees) from the previous shop, the work melds together with remnants to form something else... The installation features a video application shifting between synthetic imagery and a robotic monkey controlled by an LLM that generates live scripts and edits. Memory Hole speaks to the deletion, extraction, and manipulation of memory by artificial agents, tracing and performing the shifting of recall and perception from the tangible to something blurred and elusive.

The Pit (2024), is part of the @re_humanism exhibition, Timeline Shift, at @fondazionepastificiocerere in Rome. Inside a stone structure, a video loop forms a pit. Each frame was cropped and re-fed into a local image generator with a random prompt, zooming into shifting spaces, self-consuming image collapse, and black box hallucinations. Thanks to the curator, @danielacot , and the @re_humanism team for a fantastic installation. So nice to be showing amongst such a great group of artists and artwork. The exhibition runs from 19 June - 30 July 2025 at Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, Roma The first three photographs are by: Carlo Romano; courtesy

Memory Hole 2025 June 26 - July 07 at Amager Centret Opening on Thursday 4–6 in a disused shop at Amager Centret in Copenhagen, I'm showing an installation made during the course of my residency at @fabrikkenffkd . The work is pieced together from fragments and bits, stripped and collected from discarded electronics, toys, massage chairs, a cage, etc. Keeping detritus from the previous shop, the work melds together with remnants to form something else... They don't exist. They are like these short bursts, spaces clipped from another dimension, sliding into subs and non-places, moving between fabricated vacation spots, forced testimonials, and an animatronic monkey hosting travels through melting cartoon imagery. Memory Hole speaks to the deletion, extraction, and manipulation of memory by artificial agents, tracing and performing the shifting of recall and perception from the tangible to something blurred and elusive.
