Some days i'm not sure that i have the mindset for all that i needed to write or rehearse,.. and i'm tempted to avoid the studio. But i eventually found that i don't have to be all or nothing... it was ok to just sit down at the desk for 10 minutes to remember what i love about writing or creating. If you have those moments too, i encourage you to sit/stretch/walk/dream (etc).. And give yourself permission to end early, to walk back out, no pressure. I find there’s something important in the connection of being in the space of our creating. Sometimes just being there keeps the inner web healthy. Instead of cancelling your studio day, just show up and that’s ok.

to the young social/ environmental activists out there: i know it’s hard to believe but.. we can be completely in love with our world, be spell-bound by it AND also be disheartened and half-broken by the world.. in fact, it is the alchemy of both that is or fuels your superpower .. so please don’t lose your joy in the chaos 🐢shalan

What a pleasure to have worked with filmmaker John Wimberly @wimberlyhrm this past winter as he was creating a tv series of following forest guides as they share thoughts and views of the trails they take! Wela’lioq, thanks to @forestguideshow for bringing our passion of the forest to people’s screens, inviting them to also spend time in nature’s healing woods. (Yes the woods are “closed” in NS as i type this.. but they will “reopen” so please go visit them like missed family when we can,.. soon my friends, soon.) For episode 3 (following me this past winter), i spent my time with the crew talking about learning/revitalizing the Mi’kmaw language, and my love of trees! Here are a few behind-the-scenes photos i took while some of the crew were preparing (Ethan Neville and John Wimberly) Other wonderful forest guides in the series are: Don Hynes don902 , Gorden Collinet @trail_manager , Tam Verlaine @narrativeaim , Adam Hill @adamhillphoto , Carolyn Hocquard wonderandwilder Currently you can find these episodes through Bell tv1 / Fibe. tv1.bell.ca/fibetv1/shows/forest-guide And you can get more info/follow here: /about/ #forestbathing #revitalizingindigenouslanguages #forestguides

npisun (“medicine”) To me, the forest is medicine.. from the ground to the sky.. Look, the trees are dancing! How amazing that we have access to healthy forests, peace to walk it, and with a full belly. 🌲💕

ah yes, that video i made of reading my poem, “waiting for monarchs” (butterflies, not people, by the way) you can check it out here: /our-impact/we-are-the-possible/we-are-the-ancestors/we-are-the-possible-shalan-joudry/ (And please know that i am a Mi’kmaw language learner. 😊 People interested to learn should find resources and lessons from fluent speakers.) 🌲💕🌲

toqwa’q (fall/autumn) has begun.. the morning air is cool and crisp.. red leaves have already fallen.. but the trees had dried early from the drought.. i hope they get to rest and reset for the winter.. try again in the spring!

many people might not realize that i foster baskets inbetween the shop and their forever home.. that’s the life of a partner-to-a-basket-maker.. trying on baskets and taking selfies for potential buyers and keeping the baskets warm and clean while waiting.. 😊
