Today I’m happy to show you some stuff with the Bishop’s Miscellany MK2 by Shakmat Modular. Full video on my YouTube channel.
This marvelous thing can record AND generate AND remix control voltages and gate on two idenpendant channel with access to almost everything as control voltage destination.
But above all it’s a playable module (even tho there is a bunch of menu to travel to to set it up as you like) that you can use to make very precise things or find inspiration and new ideas on the fly.
I don’t use some of it’s most deep features so I won’t talk about them but just with the bascis you can go pretty far already.

Turing machines are generative sequencers that create looped melodies that slowly evolve and change over time, perfect for techno. I’m using the Shroud of Turing from Flatsix Modular in my compact techno setup. It’s a 1U turing machine with clever features like user-defined scales and the ability to save different scales to play. I’m using it with Shakmat Ballista Blast as the lead voice. Ohmforce Bohm is the main kick and I play it against Shakmat Battering Ram for dual-kick fun.

Ballista Blast and OXI One Mkii is a great combo. The new shakmat module offers an incredible versatility by itself, but works great in a modular environment as well. Here I’m using a sequencing technique that I love: separating melodic patterns and rhythms ones. I use a mono sequencer for notes and a multitrack for gates. Maths creates pitch glides and filter envelopes.
