The Shroud of Turing is a performance-focused shift register sequencer inspired by the Turing Machine, reimagined with#eurorack additional tools to help you evolve your generated phrases. At its heart is a 16-bit shift register that generates evolving pseudo-random CV sequences — turn the probability knob to sweep between locked, repeating patterns and ever-changing generative melodies, or find the sweet spot in between where sequences gradually mutate over time.
Need a small sequencer for your 1U (Intellijel) case? FlatSix has you covered.

The Seventh Summoner is a powerful 1U performance sequencer that brings the flexibility of a full-featured sequencer into a compact form. At its core, it’s designed for real-time performance, giving you the ability to recall and manipulate up to six 32-note sequences on the fly. Adjust playback direction, slew, octave, note transposition, and clock division in real-time to craft evolving musical expressions.
And then, there is the Summoner... With the Summoner Sequence, you can record these same dynamic manipulations into a meta-sequencing layer. Chain up to 16 of your sequences, complete with all your adjustments, and watch them come to life like spirits in the grasp of a master Summoner.
This module is a part of the Nocturne Alchemy Platform - a flexible eurorack module series that shares the same robust Arduino-based hardware, allowing one to effortlessly swap firmware and functionalities through an intuitive web loader. By purchasing one module, you gain access to a full range of freely available firmwares, including the other current creations, Slight of Hand and Arp Of Darkness, as well as more planned for future release! It’s like getting multiple modules for the price of just one!

As a maker of musical instruments, NOTHING brings me more joy than seeing how people choose to use my modules for their music, or the racks into which they are installing them. Thanks so much to @hahn7951 for sharing his setup with newly installed Slight Of Hand, and Seventh Summoner and Arp Of Darkness. It’s a beautiful rack! Give him a follow to see how he’s using them! For those of you who have any FlatSix Modules in your rack, feel free to share with me as well, I’d love to see them!

Seeing how far I can push a couple of Basilimus Iteritas Alters with a trifecta of Nocturne Alchemy Platform modules. The Arp Of Darkness is modulating the first BIA with a new feature called Auto Remix Mode that’s in beta. (It shuffles the note order of the current buffer every 2 or 4 bars) The Shroud Of Turing is managing the lead voice of the first BIA. The Seventh Summoner is managing the baseline voices which are the second BIA, and a Mother-32. Modulation duties of the second BIA are coming from the Voltage Block, and the Arp Of Darkness. The clocks are being handled by Varigate 8+. Drums are handled by a BitBox being triggered by a Circadian Rhythms. Finally I have a few VCA linked up to some voltages on an ADDAC System Manual Latches as a mute for each voice. #eurorack #eurorackmodular #modularsynth
@synthdadmusic dropped a new video with a small-case eurorack system tuned for live techno. Check out the video to see how it was built and how it performs. LINK IN BIO.

Enough teasing, it’s time to explain how I put this compact 84hp techno setup together. It started as an experiment with the Shrouds of Turing module and grew from there into this fun but hard-hitting performance setup. It’s hands-on, easy to play and also pairs well with other gear.
Go over to my Youtube channel (link in bio) and I’ll walk through why I chose the modules I did, how it all works, and how I use Shrouds of Turing as the melodic heart of the setup.

Turing machines are generative sequencers that create looped melodies that slowly evolve and change over time, perfect for techno. I’m using the Shroud of Turing from Flatsix Modular in my compact techno setup. It’s a 1U turing machine with clever features like user-defined scales and the ability to save different scales to play. I’m using it with Shakmat Ballista Blast as the lead voice. Ohmforce Bohm is the main kick and I play it against Shakmat Battering Ram for dual-kick fun.
I’ve got a full video on how I built this setup coming this week...watch my Youtube for more!

I am so not done with free firmware updates for the Arp Of Darkness. Working on version 1.4 right now and I thought I’d share two of the new features being introduced. Meet “remix mode” and the “auto remix buffer buddies” (I reserve the right to call this something much cooler before release…) Remix mode allows you to reshuffle the playback of the notes you entered into the playback buffer simply by hitting the octave up and octave down buttons together. Instantly reshuffle your musical phrases on the fly. The auto remix buffer modes do it automatically for you every 2, 4, or 8 bars (loops of the buffer) adding generative capabilities to the AOD. Want to beta test? Jump in my DMs! Cheers! #eurorack #eurorackmodular #modularsynth
The firmware for the Shroud Of Turing is now released as open source under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International. It was an amazing diy / open source community who got me started,so this feels like the right thing to do. If you like the idea of creating alternate firmwares for an Arduino Nano-based eurorack module, then have at it. I can’t wait to see what people do with it. And also… a very special thank you to @tomwhitwell for starting me down this journey so many years ago with my first DIY build of a brilliant little module called the Turing Machine. You made an impact, sir. Cheers!
