ARTS & PERFORMANCE X Repeat the Action show.
CREATIVE DIRECTION 3 of 3
Being half Portuguese, it felt important for me to root the project in the local context, bringing together Portuguese artists as a way to engage with the place hosting the show.
The show begins with
@jose_marrucho , who composed and performed the live sound using drums and percussion.
My intention was to create a repetitive sound layer that could accompany the first part of the show without ever reaching a climax, reinforcing the idea of repetition through sound and movement.
After the second and final appearance of the models,
@nidiasukulbembe , DJ and producer from
@principediscos_verdadeiro , introduces a transition that shifts the atmosphere and opens the final phase of the show.
I’ve followed Nidia’s work for over a decade, and collaborating together became an opportunity to bring her practice into a context beyond the traditional club environment.
As the sound changes, the movement transforms.
The models begin to converge toward the center, forming two opposite circles around the totem.
This moment reflects my intention to emphasize collectivity, a group coming together, merging into a shared presence.Gradually, all 19 models occupy the structure, forming a single collective image.
While researching choreographers, I came across
@marco_da_silva_ferreira ‘s work and immediately felt he was the figure who could most naturally fuse with all the other artistic elements of the project.
The dancers, previously seated among the audience, rise and enter the space, reinforcing the sense of tribe and belonging that became a fundamental part of the project.
What began as individual movement becomes a collective ritual.
Obrigado.
