Memphis Minnie’s in the Lower Haight was often held up as Exhibit A whenever someone said San Francisco had no good barbecue. Established in the late ‘90s, the Southern restaurant specialized in pastrami sandwiches, fried chicken, and sweet tea.
Following several changes in ownership, years of decline, and an unceremonious closure in September 2025, former dishwasher Angel Pech is bringing the once-pioneering establishment back to life. What amounts to Memphis Minnie’s 4.0 is as close to a turn-back-the-clock situation as it gets. The institution is back to its former glory.

In The Waggle this week: Tidy up your desk and trade your company fleece for something cerulean — Anna Wintour, Condé Nast’s terrifyingly chic matriarch, is considering San Francisco as the 2027 destination of Vogue World. While nothing has been confirmed, several meetings with Mayor Daniel Lurie provide compelling evidence. The Devil Wears… Patagonia Fleece?

The robot dance battle at SoMa's Temple nightclub on Thursday was less Dancing with the Stars and more… firmware update. A $40,000 humanoid robot named Cricket entered the octagon wearing a neon pink wig, struck a pose, then swiveled its hips to A-ha’s “Take on Me” in front of a packed-in crowd.
The demonstration was part of a “dance-off” meant to highlight the latest improvements to the robot, a two-year old G1 model from Chinese company Unitree. But the main event of the night — robot fight club — was a bigger hit, naturally.

Since retiring from basketball in 2017, Warriors center and NBA champion Festus Ezeli has found a new passion: dining at mom-and-pop restaurants across the Bay Area and documenting it on @festusfeasts .
Ezeli prefers to call his culinary adventures a hobby — and himself a “foodie in training.”
“I’m not an influencer, because I’m not doing it to be an influencer,” he says. “I’m just recording my regular life.” He’s certainly having a great time doing it, too.
We sat down with Ezeli at Oakland’s @9jagrills and talked over plates of fufu, oxtail, and joloff. Read the full story at the link in our bio.

San Francisco’s housing crisis has officially reached its final form: we’re now suffering from a “mansion shortage,” with wealthy buyers paying nearly double the asking price for their dream home.
In late April, a six-bedroom, 5,700-square-foot Cow Hollow property was listed for $7.95 million. It sold for a head-turning $15 million last Friday, surpassing records for San Francisco’s biggest ask over list price in 26 years. SF home sales are hitting new highs, with 85% of homes selling above list price last month.
