The time has finally come… Welcome to Odd Compelling Tales. 🎃 Set in the fictional New England town of Black Creek in 1998, we explore the dark and disturbing history of Halloween, the savage horrors of the occult and the characters and creatures that live among us.
What terrors lurk outside the safety of our walls? What creatures stalk the woods at night? What secrets does our history hold? These are questions Jamie Duffy rarely ever contemplated before her little brother, Charlie wandered into the woods that night.
A horrific fairytale rooted in character, Odd Compelling Tales is an examination of childhood trauma, the loss of innocence and the malleable nature of “truth”.

Every character I create starts as a shadow… a shape without a voice.
I’ve come to see storytelling as a form of magic — a ritual of attention. You’re not just inventing something… you’re conjuring it. Pulling pieces from your inner world and the one around you, fusing them into a living symbol that reflects both.
Some characters are mirrors. Some are warnings. Some are guides.
But all of them reveal something true — about who we are, what we fear, and what we’re becoming.

Back in middle school and high school, my family, friends and I used to build a Halloween Home Haunt in New Castle, PA. We ran it for about five years, just kids with big imaginations and whatever materials we could get our hands on.
That little low-budget haunted attraction is where I fell in love with world-building, practical effects, and making something feel bigger than it had any right to be.
Crazy how those early DIY nights helped shape everything I create now. 🎃🖤

Heartbroken by the passing of Bob Burns last night. I can’t express how many times I had the urge to try and find a way to reach him in the past few years. I didn’t want to bother the man, but I did want to thank him. Not just for his contributions to the world of film and monsters—but for being a role model I looked up to my whole life.
Bob was a beautiful soul with so much light to give. For a shy, quiet kid such as myself—Bob taught me that even when the rest of the world didn’t want or even try to understand me, monsters would always be my friend. Those words still reverberate through my being—a guiding principle in my life. I would not be where I am today without this incredible, imaginative man. To the Burns family and all who loved him, I am truly sorry for your loss.
To Bob,
I get to live my dream every day because you gave me the confidence to chase it. And I’m sure I’m only one of many you’ve inspired. Rest easy, Bob. You created magic in this world and your spirit will live on in monster kids everywhere.
