Honoring Our First Responders on National Peace Officers Memorial Day!
On National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the courage of those who step into harm’s way every day to protect our families and our communities. I am deeply humbled to have the trust and endorsement of the men and women on the front lines of public safety.
Together, we are committed to a California where every neighborhood is safe, every worker is valued, and every family can thrive.

Firefighters put their lives on the line for our neighborhoods every day. When they’re battling cancer, they deserve nothing less than reliable care without delay.
I’m encouraged to see new commitments from Blue Shield that will help ensure San Francisco firefighters can quickly resolve issues that may arise with their care and that members facing a cancer diagnosis can always access the treatment their doctors recommend.
Earlier this year, so many of us were disheartened to learn that Ken Jones, a retired San Francisco firefighter with stage 4 lung cancer, was denied access to the doctor-recommended care he needed by Blue Shield. He never should have had to fight his insurance company to receive treatment that could prolong his life.
I’m grateful that he has now been able to access the care he needs, and I’m optimistic that Blue Shield’s new commitments will improve care coordination and help resolve issues as soon as they arise.

San Francisco Fire Station 3.🫡
San Francisco Fire Station 3 is one of my all time favorites. Located in the Tenderloin, 3’s has been #1 for busiest firehouses in the US for a multitude of years. The fire station’s main level houses Engine 3 & Truck 3. Behind the apparatus floor is the Communications Room, gear lockers, and day room. On the mezzanine level, you’ll find one brass pole, the kitchen/dining area, a picture window overlooking the app bay, followed by the Officers quarters with a bay window facing the alley in the rear. On the third floor, there’s a large bunk room, bathroom/showers, and two very tall fire poles to reach the bay. The station also has a cool “Juliet” balcony for raising the flag. Ty Ryan Blankenship.
I was proud to join Mayor @danielluriesf , President Sam Gebler, Chief Dean Crispen, my colleagues, and Local 798 leadership to mark this important agreement supporting the firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, and first responders who serve San Francisco every day.
As a National Guard officer, I will always support making sure our men and women in uniform have the resources, protections, and working conditions needed to do their jobs safely and effectively.
From our neighborhood fire stations in the Sunset to emergency calls across San Francisco, our first responders show up when people need them most. Public safety is about making sure the people on the front lines have what they need to protect and serve our communities.
Thank you to Local 798 members and your families for the sacrifices you make for San Francisco every single day.

286 #sanfrancisco #firefighters screened for #skincancer . Every single one, free of charge. Thank you for your support @castlebiosciences !
Two full days at San Francisco Fire. #dermatologists , residents, #medical #students and #volunteers working side by side with the @firefighter_skincancer_ca , @fcsn_california and @avmelanoma . CDAN President Dr. Ann Haas and dozens of volunteers proved something this week: when dermatology commits to a mission, it shows up in force.
Firefighters face a 9% higher cancer risk on the job. Early detection saves lives. And this weekend, 286 firefighters got exactly that.
Next weekend, we’re back. 🔥
