Another year, another opportunity to write and a record a song for a @capecelatroiii compilation. The Prompt was “Longest, Coldest, Winter” and these first two months of ‘25 gave plenty of inspiration to fit that theme. I missed the #artpm deadline but still felt the urge for some physical/visual representation of this tune, so here is a music short I made with some of Mitra’s camera work and starring Isis’ thriving plants. Happy Birthday Mitra!
11 years of feeling incredibly blessed, witnessing this magnificent person. Mitra means “friend to all” and she embodies that spirit through her fervent empathy, allyship and grace. When she was a newborn, I was in toys r us (RIP) trying to figure out which kind of formula to buy in my newparentzombie trance, and the clerk asked me my new daughter’s name. I shared it proudly. She then asked what Mitra means. I couldn’t think of the words but blurted out, “Best Friends Forever”
Every new year with her, that memory reminds me that I was correct.

Releasing a butterfly on Mitra’s first day of Fifth grade was beautifully heavy.
I’m looking forward to this year of growth for her. We had an excellent summer and I am going to miss having her with me for daily adventures.
For now, The monarch is comfortably resting on its chosen flower. I know it will eventually fly off, but until then, she can stay as long as she wants.
