Day seven hiking across Slovenia with @onfootholidays - and on the seventh day … we rested … in beautiful Trieste! What a tremendous, fun, and beautiful city to kick our feet up in! Having burned our share of calories we ate through the city, overdosing on Neapolitan pizza @damicheletrieste , slurping rich ramen @tang__ramen , and incredible Al fresco tartare at @becco.osteria and having our minds completely blown with regional delights at Osteria Marise. We enjoyed the sprawling antique markets, the colorful jellies in the harbor, and the sunsets that gently faded into a vibrant city that partied all night. What a perfect end to an epic trip.

Day six hiking across Slovenia with @onfootholidays - today we go low, real low, and hike over and down into the world famous Skocjan Caves. This rare UNESCO site features a massive underground canyon, roughly 3.5 kilometers long, 10–60 meters wide, and over 100 meters high, making it one of the largest in the world, attracting tourists since the 18th century! After experiencing the cool depth of the cave system we headed west to walk over the border into Italy for two nights at Hotel Coppe in the grand city of Trieste, enjoying the epic cafe culture with writers like Svevo, Joyce and Morris frequenting institutions like @pirona900 and @anticocaffesanmarco and thoroughly enjoying a late dinner at the exquisite @becco.osteria

Day five hiking across Slovenia with @onfootholidays - today we continue through the stunning Karst valley and visit the ancient hilltop town of Stanjel, where we enjoyed the Ferrari gardens, lovely local artists, and winding streets that led to palatial courtyards with hand made gelato. From here we descend to the tiny hamlet of Tomaj to be welcomed into @domacija.sajna with its warm, rustic charm and romantic courtyards exploding with flowers. Expect yet another fine meal paired with delicious wines!

Beautiful hilltop towns with rustic cantinas and local vintners welcome you to try all the amazing wine from this region, before settling down at the stunning @hisa_posebne_sorte with a full wine tasting and farm to table feast. Our favorite part of the day was meeting husband and wife Sandra and Matei who invited us in to try a few of their amazing biodynamic vintages at @santei_naturalwines - plus if you ask nicely, he might break out the special nocino for you to try;)
