I had the distinct honor of being recognized tonight by @nationalactionnetwork .
There is no greater honor for me than to represent my people simply by existing, by striving for excellence, by working to open doors and create space for those who look like me in an industry that was never built for us.
To be a Black designer and to find success in this industry is not just personal, it is purposeful. It is about breaking barriers, shifting narratives, and making sure that the doors I walk through do not close behind me, but remain open for those coming after me.
I am so deeply grateful that @nationalactionnetwork and @real_sharpton saw the work we are doing at Sergio Hudson and the work I am committed to personally, and chose to honor me in this way.
I am truly humbled. Words cannot fully express what it meant to feel that love in the room, to be celebrated by my people and to celebrate my people in return. The joy we share with one another is unmatched. Nothing compares.
To the woman who risked her life to bring me into this world, who sacrificed pieces of herself and her own dreams to shape me into the man I am today.
To the most stylish, beautiful, intelligent woman on this planet, and I mean that for real. Every designer says their mom is the most stylish, but mine actually is. I’m just saying.
There is no greater muse in my life than you. Everything I create carries a piece of your strength, your grace, and your elegance.
