Seascapes (at lockdown)
2021
Taking its visual references from Hiroshi Sugimoto’s “seascapes”, this pandemic series consists of the productions of participants showing performance upon the instruction delivered by Sergen Şehitoğlu.
This project keeps a record of the interactions with the ‘sea’ by participants showing performance such as Adnan Yerebakan, Ali İbrahim Öcal, Arda Behen, Burak Kabadayı, Doğa Okay, Ezgi Tok, Ilgın Seymen, Kerem Ozan Bayraktar and Yağız Özgen during the lockdown period in May 2021. Turning into a desire during the lockdown, the ‘sea’ is presented to the audience in this combined (-fragmented) visual, with the help of a common skyline.
The formal fragmentation of the visual indicates the experience of the participants and the big visual that is formed covers the display window of the gallery as a seascape that was not experienced but imagined by Sergen Şehitoğlu.

“One eye sees, the other feels.” — Paul Klee
“Layers of a Gaze”, a window display I designed for Paşabahçe, will be presented from International Women’s Day through Mother’s Day.
Starting from the motto “Life is Beautiful Together”, this work approaches togetherness not merely as a romantic idea, but as a structural reality.
It explores a system that becomes stronger, richer, and more complete when united — and diminished when separated.
As layers come together, a face begins to emerge.
What individual parts cannot express alone, they reveal together.
I would like to sincerely thank Paşabahçe, especially Esra Tokel,
Tuğçe Uysal for her support throughout the entire design process,
and the ondepo team for their meticulous production in bringing this vision to life.

Three days on set, weeks in the making.
For Beymen SS26 – House of Luxury, I designed a surreal set world where sculptural elements, crafted forms and staged landscapes come together to frame the collection.
The process started long before the shoot — from developing the spatial language to building each element as a physical piece. From fabrication to installation, and finally to three days on set, it was a continuous flow between design and execution.
On set, everything found its rhythm.
A focused yet incredibly enjoyable few days, shaped by a great team and a shared vision.
Grateful to everyone involved for making both the process and the shoot such a smooth and inspiring experience.

Beymen Spring Summer 2026 – House of Luxury
For the Beymen Spring Summer 2026 campaign, I designed a set world that transforms Beymen’s “House of Luxury” statement into a surreal stage.
The intention was not merely to create a background, but to construct a spatial narrative that engages in dialogue with the silhouettes of the collection—positioning fashion within a theatrical environment. The composition evokes an open-air atmosphere while preserving a strong stage aesthetic. Flying fish, a monumental curved piano, clouds, sun, a grass landscape, and a theatrical curtain come together to establish a controlled surreal setting. A stage where reality and fiction intersect — a “stage of luxury.”
Within the scope of the set design, I led the concept development and oversaw all design decisions, including spatial composition, scale and proportion, surface and material language, as well as on-site set placement control. Each element was positioned within a clear architectural framework — strong in the frame, yet intentionally restrained to support the garments rather than compete with them.
The project aimed to establish a strong spatial bridge between Beymen’s brand identity and a contemporary visual language.
It was a privilege to contribute to the visual universe of Beymen SS26. @beymen
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Moris and Emir, and the entire Beymen team for inviting me into this inspiring project. @morishasan@emir_alemdar
Special thanks to Alida and the 212 Production team, and to İlkay and the Humans team for their collaboration and trust. @alidayss@ilkaygurpinar
My gratitude also goes to director Marcin for the enjoyable and inspiring set environment throughout the shoot. @marcinkempski
I am also grateful to Tuğçe for her invaluable support throughout the design process, and to the Strashow team for their dedication during both production and installation — working tirelessly around the clock. @tugceeeuysal@strashow_global

“This list of 310 names is not only meaningless, but also ephemeral. In 2017, Şehitoğlu generated an entirely different list for his prequel project, Trials / Denemeler: 310 Artists. When compared to the more recent list assembled eight years later, the names have changed, and the order has changed, erasing the former results. In fact, Google’s results will change every day, every minute. So, why do we place our faith in Google whose criteria are irrelevant, meaningless, and ephemeral? The answer: this digital tool has supplanted original research and connoisseurship, creating a new hierarchy for appreciation of artists and art objects. ” (Taken from the exhibition text written by Barbara Pollack)

“310 Artist Portraits is a compilation of 310 “top artists” chosen by Google’s algorithm. All that Şehitoğlu did was insert the term “all artists” into Google Arts and Culture, and a list was immediately generated. The resulting project examines how an individual is described as an artist by the data structures of the digital age. No need to consult Clement Greenberg or Arthur Danto. No need to review art history. Eschewing criteria such as “originality” or “imagination,” Google assembled a list of names that nonetheless implies a compendium of value or fame. However, the criteria for this selection is not popularity or number of results. It is the number of times people searched for each particular name.
Şehitoğlu presents these findings as Google does, arranged through the most minimalist means. He ironically uses tangible materials to encapsulate digital output, a strategy that reinforces our suspension of disbelief in relation to search engines.” (Taken from the exhibition text written by Barbara Pollack)

310 Artist Portraits (2025) examines the structures that determine the conditions under which an artist is recognized, addressing these questions through lists, numerical data, information, and the visual era. Built upon data collected from Google’s Arts & Culture interface, the exhibition unfolds around the axis of the knowledge–information divide and the hegemony of knowledge, opening up a field of inquiry into concepts such as lists, visual culture, and the art world itself. In an age where the distinction between knowledge and information has blurred, this indistinct data has become a decisive factor — as in many other fields — in how an individual is recognized within a community, and specifically, as an artist.
In this sense, the exhibition invites reflection on how the “art world” is increasingly replaced by a digital system of validation, and how the writing of art history — traditionally associated with permanence — is now shaped by new mechanisms of acceptance.
First realized in 2017, this systematic project has been reapplied for the current exhibition, generating new data that forms different formal variations of the same conceptual framework.
With 310 Artist Portraits (2025), Sergen Şehitoğlu constructs an allegory that reflects upon his own field — art itself — and revisits Machiavelli’s assertion that “He who possesses knowledge possesses power.”
The exhibition will be on view at FIERMAN, New York, from December 11, 2025 to February 1, 2026, Wednesday through Sunday, 12:00–6:00 PM.
